I'm in the process of burning my 300+ CD collection using FLAC and Secure Rip.  On a few of my CD's the log shows something like the following:
Track  9: Completed with unreliable data - Quality 6.64%  [Tender Heart - Arlene]
      00:00:14  Unreliable data after 16 re-read attempts

I listened to the song after ripping and didn't notice any problems.

So my question is what exactly does this message mean? 

I did do a search for an answer and did not find anything relevant.  Thank you!

means that after 16 attempts it failed to read the data at the 14 second mark for track 9. the result is a flaw in the ripped music.

I listened to the song after ripping and didn't notice any problems.

it might be a small imperfection.

The other error message i get sometime is some thing like...
      00:00:14  It took 3 attempts to get a good read

This normally means the rip is ok but there is a small chance that the rip has a flaw.



These are due to CD imperfections (Scratches, smudges, etc..). Most of the times this can be corrected by wiping the CD. I use eye glass cleaner.

I was able to obtain 100% rips on all but 3 or so CDs in my 1,100 CD collection.  I did do a lot of cleaning and I find that different CD drives can give vastly different results so try different drives.  One drive, a very inexpensive generic CD burner, reads much better than even my more expensive drives.

BTW: I did have to buy a few replacements but those last few are CDs I can't really find without tons of effort or wasting some money.  I probably bought no more than 20 replacements but know that my collection is as flawless as it can be without considerable effort trying to track down a few rare CDs.

I'm at 336 GB w/ 13,244 songs in FLAC Q8.
