A DirectShow idea....
« on: August 18, 2002, 09:08:09 pm »

OK my DirectShow knowledge is limited and probably wrong but...

With directshow being about filters filergraphs (hooks and pins)...
And with tools like zoom player and theatertek being a front end to such filters...
And with WinDVD (and PowerDVD over SPDIF) having DPLII available to ZP via directshow...

What is to stop you guys coding a plug in that 'if you have registered WinDVD 4 Plus' installed will allow the option of DPLII decode modes... Even as a 3rd party plug in if there are 'issues' with this..

No additional (dolby) licence issues for you or the user...

I shudder to think how many times dolby have had my money for licences (every SW DVD player / every release, dolby get thier licence paid for...) a far better solution is to have the Dolby and DTS decoders built into the driver (or an application partner to the driver to be specific) and purchase the licence once and then have the players allow to hook to this so that many players would only cost one license (I only have one set of ear to listen to it with) but thats not the way it works...

We have some pretty hot DirectShow coders and wizards on AVS... People that could clearly identify to you the hooks and pins (graphedit makes them known) that would make this work...

Does this make any sense as an idea ?

DPLII sounds sweet (much better than my recievers 5.1 stereo mode) and would allow me to enjoy MJ in a 5.1 system so much more...

Media Jukebox uses the registered DVD codecs for playback, so I'd think that would already work.

Is it possible that there's just some option screen that MJ isn't exposing, or is MJ using the wrong filter?

Take care.

I believed MJ had a directshow interface for DVD filters its just I dont use it as I need AR control and TheaterTek or ZP takes care of that...

What needs to be done I think (in my ignorance) is to allow the stereo audio output stream of the MJ part connect to the DPLII input of WinDVD (PowerDVD's) is locked...

If I can get your support I will get someone on AVS to explain it to me and have a play with graphedit and see if I can work out what combination unlocks this... DPLII would be sweet...

Posted on AVS to try and get an understanding of what is needed in this....

I belive Blight will know (among others) how to link the stereo 16/44.1 PCM to the DPLII decoder...

Would love to see this as a plug in... Worth the cost of WinDVD simply for my audio useage..

OK heres the skinny so far...

BBQ sums it up pretty nicely with this

---------------------------------
Since IviAudioProcess.ax from WinDVD 4.0.11.83 crashed in Zoom Player, I could only use the filter in GraphEdit.

Just insert three filters in GraphEdit:
Default WaveOut Device
InterVideo Audio Processor (IviAudioProcess.ax)
CyberLink Audio CD filter (cdaudiocd.ax)

Insert your favorite CD when you see "Select an input file for this filter to use" and choose one cda file in your CD/DVD drive.
Then you will find a filter with AudioCD output pin. Connect the filters like this:

code:-----------------------------------------------------------------
[AudioCD]->[XForm IN]->[XForm OUT]->[Audio Input pin (rendered)]
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Right click InterVideo Audio Processor and choose Filter Properties.
InterVideo Container DMO -> InterVideo EXP DMO -> Append -> Close

Right click InterVideo Audio Processor and choose Filter Properties again.
You will find DPL-II under InterVideo EXP DMO.

----------------------------------------------------------

OK so a DPL II via waveout to the Intervideo renderer is doable... This is probably going to be an either / or situation to K-Mangler and the ASIO plug in now though... Me I would take K-Mangled DPL II or ASIO bit perfect but then I like multi channel... the real audio philes want bit perfect stereo as a higher priority...

Is there any help i can give... Graphedit testing or anything further ?

Bumping for Matt or other developers....

Possible to link these so that it works ??

Graphedit seems to be able to do it ?? An automatic plug in perhaps ??
