Getting cover art from internet : choosing data base ?
« on: September 24, 2007, 07:09:26 am »

Hello,

=> What is The Internet data base actually used by MC to find songs covers ?

=> When getting cover art from the internet, can we choose (or in next MC release), le web site where MC goes searching ?

Why ?
Because, it's quite OK for English/US songs but most of French songs are unknown on the Internet base used by MC..

Thanks !! :)

It isn't possible.  Sorry.

YADB has some cover art.

images.google.com is a good place to look.  Use copy and paste from there.

iTunes don't like Beatles....

try something like:
http://www.thejosher.net/iTunes/index.php?artist=robbie+williams&album=rudebox

perhaps you have to download the tif (click 'That link give a 404? Grab the tif instead..')

Its search functionality is horrible.  You have to put album and artist I find.  Keep trying things.  It's got tons of cover art but is difficult to find sometimes.

We are currently working on having MC also check for cover art from another source. That might improve things.

isnt the tif like 5 megabytes? i can't be embedding those in files. wouldn't it effectively use 50 megs of disk space for a 10 track album? ew.

(and yes, i do need them embedded into the .mp3s)

that's right. You have to convert it to jpg (but most times a jpg is available).
I wrote a small graber (it's to buggy to share) to catch the covers.... it reads the id3-tag and requests/saves the cover as folder.jpg... it founds about 80% of my albums. that's more than i expected.

Jim, are we ever going to get the chance to choose from multiple cover art choices, and in turn be able to store multiple versions of the same album's cover art in YADB?
