Need Help with an Unresponsive IPOD Nano (1GB)!
« on: August 25, 2007, 10:18:42 pm »

My Daughter brought her flat Ipod Nano (1gb) out for a "charge" but when I pluged it in it did a reboot cycle then ended up with just the Apple logo on the screen and was completly unresponsive during all that time.  I did the reset procedure (Hold --> UnHold then Menu+Enter for 6-10sec) and the Apple Logo went away but it is still completly unresponsive and will not charge or be recognised from any PC.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Try both of these....

Hold center button and down.  This should put it in disk mode so it can be read as a hard drive.
Then do standard reset and see if it comes up normally.

If that fails....
Hold center button and left.  This should put it in diagnostic mode.
Select the option to run all tests.
After those are done, reset normally.

Apple puts a link to this page on their main support page:

Were you doing the hold/center left button immediately after the center/up reset?
It's kinda like the F8 when booting windows to get into the boot menu, you have to time it right.
Goes right into the diagnostic mode on my nano.
If you can't get it into diagnostic mode, you'll need to take it to an apple store or send it in.
If you can get into diagnostic mode, you can run all the tests, then reset into disk mode.
Then fire up itunes and do the factory reset on the nano.
This will then have you back to a working device and can resync with MC.
Good luck.

Thanks guys but my Window (no pun intended) just closed, I'm now away for a few days and my daughter will be on camp so I'll play when I get back.  You can just tell that it will not be simple when your Daughter "casually" gives it to you saying "can you charge it"?!

I might be in luck!  I left it unplugged for the last few days and when plugging it back it it started the flashing/rebooting thing but now has the Bat Charging Icon up!
Thanks
