I don't know who I am writing to - there doesn't seem to be a contact e-mail for reporting problems, just this forum, which, not being a computer professional, I find difficult to negotiate. I hope this message gets through to someone in the company who can help.

I recently (this month) downloaded and paid for J River Media Center 12 - the latest version. However, although it installed on my computer, when I open the program, it crashes within a minute or two, making it pretty useless.

I have tried to read and understand the FAQs on this forum, but they don't seem to answer my problem. As I paid for this program, it would be nice if someone from the company could assist me in solving this irritating problem. Otherwise, I'll just go back to using Itunes.

Uninstall your old version and reboot.

Download the version from the top of this board.  Install it.

Restore your license.  Start at the purchase page for information on how.

I have the same problem but it usually stops crashing if I import files.

When I first install MC and open it, if I let it sit for about a minute or less, it will just close instantly.  So I start MC, quickly go to tools > Auto-Import Options and then add a folder.  It seems that after I get some folders added and run auto import, the problem no longer occurs.  I never posted the bug because it didn't seem very widespread--although it happens on more than one system here..so it isn't one specific hardware setup.

That's probably a bad DirectShow filter.  Let us know if you can find it.

I've got the same problem on a Windows 98se machine...

It runs MC11 flawlessly, but when I install MC12 it opens then crashes.  When I try to un-install, it freezes.
