Empty Genre box for SmartList
« on: August 24, 2007, 03:08:28 pm »

On a new installation of MC12, I loaded a fairly large library (26 gig) of all WMA files.  They loaded sucessfully with tag info including the prior genres and ratings I had set in Windows Media Player.  Great!

Now trying to make some smartlists by genre, but when open smartlist creation window and select a rule to filter by genre, the dropdown box from which to select the genre to be used for the filter is "empty".

Can I get the existing genres showing for my tracks to populate the dropdown box?? ?

Don't know, but try updating and wait a little.  That's a lot of data.

Well... have waited quite a long time... still no genres in the dropdown list.  I have gotten around the issue by creating smartlists of specific genre using the "contains" or "starts with", etc conditions that allow me to type in a genre.  Lousy workaround.

Still would like some help on what could cause the drop list to not populate with genres....?

If you mean this genre list then something is not right:

MC should populate the list automatically from the library contents. The list in the screenshot is from a small test library that has only a few genres.

My main library shows 377 genres in the smartlist editor.

The used file format is irrelevant. The list should come directly from the database.

As a test, could you try to create a new library, import only a few files and check if that makes any difference?  (File > Library > Library Manager > Add...)
