Move Files Into Folder Hirearchy Based On Tags
« on: September 27, 2007, 12:18:19 am »

I'm a WMP convert so this maybe a workflow I was forced into, but it works for me and I'd like to replicate it in MC.

1) Copy new files to a C:\Music\INCOMING folder
2) Tag all files
3) Then WMP automatically moves the files into C:\Music\Artist\Album\SongTitle-Artist.

For step #3, I need some way of telling MC to move all the files into the main folder hirearchy using the tags as the basis for folder and file names.  In WMP it is automatic after you've used "Find Album Information".  I know that MC doesn't have a "Find Album Info" so there isn't any way to trigger it automatically.  I'm fine highlighting the tracks and tell MC "Move These Files".

Is that possible?

Yes.

Select Files.
Right click
  --> Library tools
     --> Rename files from properties
        --> Go nuts (and familiarise yourself with all the fields you can use)
