WebUI help needed
« on: November 15, 2007, 09:59:05 am »

I've been trying to get the WebUI interface to run.  I finally have the basic black bar at the top of the page coming up with the playback controls, the shuffle/continuous controls and the list selector boxes displaying.  Below that are a couple of frames that come up with "The Page Cannot Be Displayed" caption. I assume this means that the document is not finding MC on the remote server computer.

I do not know HTML, but am trying to figure it out as I go.  As per the readme.txt, the base href has been changed to <base href="<http://192.168.1.143:666>/" /> and all SRC references for local file locations are set to file:///C:/TempZip/MediaCenterWUI which is the directory that the files were put into. The URL and port numbers are correct.

My problem seems to be that "view?location" is not being interpretted correctly.  I have no idea how this string/variable/tag gets populated in the HTML.  I am also struggling with where to look for the syntax of the instructions that follow the view?location string, such as "Playing+Now".  These don't seem to be in any of the command files in the Wiki.

I am trying this from two WinXP Pro machines, one running IE6 and one running IE7, both with firewalls turned off, I think.

I could post a screen shot of the screen as it loads with the resoure string in the bottom of the browser window, if that would help, but I can't figure out how to attach an image. The bar at the bottom of the screen reads "Opening page http://<http://192.168.1.143:666>/view?location=Media+Library%7CAudio%7CArtist%2FAlbum..."

In the above, I thought that maybe the repeated http:// was wrong, so I tried changing the base ref to <base href="<192.168.1.143:666>/" /> but then I don't get any frames and just a full page "This Page Cannot be displayed message.

Any ideas?

I am trying to remotely access the functions in MC12 from another computer to change the active playlist, raise and lower the volume, etcetera without having to sit in front of my TV, which is my primary interface to the computer running MC12.

WebUI is the code that I downloaded from this site that theoretically is authored by JRiver and is purported to be a replacement for the barebones.  I got it in the "Other" category of the "Skins and Downloads" area.  It was written by Robbie G and Joe Lencioni, apparently.

Thanks In Advance,

 :)

Try running Remote Server.  It's configured in MC Options/Startup.

Test it when it is running by entering this in your browser:

http://localhost:[port] where [port] is the number you're using.  For example: http://localhost:11120

I am running remote server and the port is 666, as in the original post.  Good debugging starting place, though.

I also tested the direct access method, "http://yourMediaCenterPCsName:theAssignedPortNumber", as http://192.168.1.143:666 and it worked as expected.

The confusion was this:
Quote
As per the readme.txt, the base href has been changed to <base href="<http://192.168.1.143:666>/" /> and all SRC references for local file locations are set to file:///C:/TempZip/MediaCenterWUI which is the directory that the files were put into. The URL and port numbers are correct.
Remote Server is MC's built-in web server, used for controlling MC from a browser.  Please use upper case "Remote Server" if that's what you mean.  Lower case "remote server" could be any server in a remote location.

I think the trouble you're having now is related to a third party program, so I'll move this to that board.  You could try a search to see if the author's around.

JimH,

Now I'm lost.  Remote Server is the built-in function.  (I will use caps from now on.)

According to the link off of the main page, JRiver WebUI is not a third party program.  It claims that it was released by JRiver by Robbie G. and Joe Lencioni.  I don't know the staff at JRiver, so I have assumed that these were JRiver people.  Maybe the link just means that it is blessed by JRiver?

Is it 3rd party or not? It doesn't really matter, though.  I just would have started the thread here if I had known it was a third party product.

They aren't JRiver.  Try a search.
