Crash on shutdown with 12.0.338
« on: October 11, 2007, 11:08:24 pm »

Hello,

I have had this problem for a while.  Every time a new version comes out, I upgrade.  But the problem remains.  If I have played a few MP3 files and leave MC running for a while, when I go to quit, it crashes.  It always says that MC has encountered an error and has to close.  Clicking on the button for more info reveals :

"App Name - media center 12.exe  App Ver - 12.0.338.0   Modname - kernel32.dll  ModVer - 5.1.2600.3119   Offset - 00012a5b"

This error occurs virtually every time I shut down MC, and normally no media is actually playing at the time.  The crashes show up in Event viewer listed as Event ID 1000 "Faulting application media center 12.exe, version 12.0.338.0, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.3119, fault address 0x00012a5b."

The last 5 crashes have all listed the identical message.  The one before that had a different offset "Faulting application svchost.exe, version 5.1.2600.2180, faulting module netman.dll, version 5.1.2600.2743, fault address 0x0000c6bd."

I do not overclock, and limit the software which runs at startup.  This is a very new install of XP onto a brand new formated SATA II drive.  I am running Norton Protection Center (AV and FW).

It's probably not MC itself.  Could be a plug-in or virus checker, etc.  There is a thread on strange problems you'll find in my signature.  It may give you ideas.

Remove anything you can, starting with virus checker.  Disabling may not be enough.
