Play from A to B (A->B)?
« on: October 12, 2007, 07:40:15 pm »

Is there a way to play audio files, specifically FLAC, from a starting point to an ending point?  This is possible in iTunes and would be a great feature addition if it's not possible now.  In the preview options, there are play 30 seconds from 30 seconds in, etc... a custom option would work perfectly.

A user could specify: Start(2:00),End(2:50)
Or simply Start(2:00),End(0)

End(0) would indicate the end.

A friends just asked if there's a way of doing this for a pub quiz,
where they preview parts of the audio.
Would be a nice feature

I was just looking for old "A-B Loop" requests (like this one) when I got back to the Media Center 12 section and found this thread.
If I understand correctly, you want to play a specific part of several songs. I need to play a specific part of one song several times. Maybe both functionalities could be merged into one.
The A-B repeat is a very old request (I found one in a June 2003 post), and I would definitely like to see it implemented in MC.

Hi,

any news about A-->B loops?

In video mode we can use the "Use Bookmark" function to play from the last position. In a lot of songs only the middle part are interesting - but I don't like to use a modified version using an audio editor.

It should be possible to keep the start and the end point in the database.

In video mode we can use the "Use Bookmark" function to play from the last position.

You're able to use bookmarking with audio files as well!

You may take a look at Larrys explanations to see how to use it. Here is a short extract:

[...] The "Use Bookmarking" field (i.e. NOT "Bookmark," but "Use Bookmarking") has 3 possible values:  Default, Yes, and No. [...] "Yes" enables bookmarking on a file. [...] When bookmarking is enabled, it puts a value in the "Bookmark" field.  [...]

The "Default" setting appears to look at the "Media Sub Type" field to determine whether or not bookmarking should be used.  [...] so far I've found that both "Audiobooks" and "Podcasts" default to "Yes."   [...]

The "Use Bookmarking" in MC can't be used to set "permanent" bookmarks [...]. The MC bookmarking feature is essentially a "resume playback" feature [...]
