Video Conversion to iPod Fails
« on: October 13, 2007, 09:04:17 pm »

I can not get MC to convert videos to synch to the iPod. I have an 80GB Classic and I'm using MC 12.0.338. When I try to sync a video it will initially start to sync, then it will stop and say "error" in the status column. No other details are given. Most of the videos are small .wmv's. I also tried to convert a full length movie in .avi. It converted for about 5 minutes, then it simply stopped and I ended up with an unreadable file on the iPod. The video thumbnail was a blank green screen and was unplayable.

Today I tried to load a video that had already been converted to Apple format. MC still tried (and failed) to convert the file, again giving me "error". I loaded up iTunes and it copied the file to the iPod easily.

Last night I noticed that after failing to convert the larger avi, ffmpeg.exe stayed running at 50% CPU usage after I closed MC. I shut it down from task manager.

Anything?

Why is MC insisting on converting videos in MP4 format when they are already formatted? Why does it fail on all conversions? Does it work for anybody else or is it just my machine?

I also have the same problem as you.

MP4 Video Conversion to iPod

I just tried to add a movie that was in MP4 but not in the 320X240 and 2Mbps format. MC said it was converting but the file will not play... it shows to be playing but a black screen and no audio. This may be why MC is converting an MP4 for you is that it is not in the IPOD format of 2Mbps.

I plan to try a file known to be converted tonight. Frankly if this works it will be awesome to ditch Itunes and use MC for managing video and music.

I haven't had a fail yet though just a long conversion time.

MP4 Video Conversion to iPod

I took a couple of MP4s out of the Ipod contol folder that Itunes transfered and copied them to my HD. Since these had to  be good files that the IPOD should recognize. The first time I sync'd it tried to convert them. I remembered I set the Convert Video Option under handhelds to convert to TV 620X??. I set this to no conversion resynced and no coversion and the files transfered fast.

I have found no problems with the MP4s so for but plan to sync my library tonight when I get home. The files play. I do not use any AVIs so I can not test those.

A note to those doing transfer of Music Videos though you have update the Tag under "media sub type" to "music video" or they show up as Video in the Movies on your IPOD not grouped by artist under music videos.
