"Erase All Thumbnails" is a too large option
« on: October 14, 2007, 05:56:34 am »

Hello,

In the command:
Tools / Options / Tree & View / Thumbnails /, the option "Erase All thumbnais", erases, as it's said, all the thumbnails, from "Video", "Images" & "Audio"

Question:
=> Can we have a more specific option ?
Example : Erase ONLY the "Video" Thumnails, (or the "Images" ones, or the "Audio" ones)

Why ?
All my Music & my Images thumbnails are OK
...But I had many Video thumbnails with many artifacts, because of a bad codec when they were made and a bad setup in Haali media splitter

Now I installed a better codec,
and I made a different setup of Haali media splitter (a Thumbnail offset (delay time) of 3000ms to avoid having the first beginning green image of the Movie generic, as a thumbnail)

Now, the "video" thumbnals are very well done :)

=> I don't want to destroy and re-create the "Audio" and "Image" thumbnails,
=> I want ONLY to destroy and re-create "Video" thumbails ( 600 files..)

Thanks for any idea :)
or.. for a small upgrade of MC ;)

Hi Jean-Max,
With most video types, you can pause playback and use right click to get a new thumbnail.

Hi Jean-Max,

Jim
Thanks Jim,

Yes, I know, to create a Video thumbnail, I used sometimes "Right click" + "Use screen grab for thumbnal" (*)

But it would be so nice to be able to destroy all the Video thumbnails (and only those) and then, let MC automatically re-create the Video thumbails !
Remember : I have 600 Video thumbnail to re-create..)

Test 1

Very often, it seems impossible to delete only one Cover in the direct command on the thumbnail itself
(in Thumbail view mode, not in playing mode):
"Covert Art / Remove cover art"
=> no result :(

If I want to delete only one thumbnail, no other choice than Delete all the thumbnails..

Test 2:

A video thumbnail exists but it's not Ok for me
I play the video then, Right click and "Use screen grab for thumbnal"  (*)
-> the new thumbnail is not created at each time:
It's created only if there is not a  pevious one

So, the new one cannot replace the previous one ?

Thanks for your experiences:)

(*) I don't talk about QT movies : the  Right click and "Use screen grab for thumbnal" is not possible..

select a video file, right click, library tools, update library from tags

this *should* cause the thumbnail to be rebuilt. if it does and you are happy, select all video files and repeat.

Hi Marko,

select a video file, right click, library tools, update library from tags

=> It's perfect! :)

=> Batch re-create missing or bad thumbnails, without erasing all !

Thanks !
