Turn off skins?

I use remote desktop a lot to access my MC machine. Skins tends to slow this down by adding graphics, whereas RD seems to be optimized for 'normal' windows. Is there a way to turn off skinning completely and just use normal windows UI elements? Thanks.

a long time ago, a member named knickelfarz made some windows skins for this very reason...

there was windows classic look...


and windows xp silver look...


I've put them both up here if you're interested. Just unzip the contents to your "MC install directory\megaskins\" folder.
