OT: Southern Cal/San Diego Fires
« on: October 23, 2007, 04:42:11 pm »

It's getting pretty bad here: http://www.kpbs.org/

I have had to evacuate to my mom's house yesterday, but we may need to evacuate soon again to Qualcomm stadium or the beach, it won't burn there...

Hopefully we can get some Minnesota like winter weather in the next day or 2 so the whole city doesn't burn down. 0% containment is bad with santa ana conditions.

It's been in the news all over here. Do you know anything about your house? Or do you have to wait and hope?

I live in an condo in Scripps Ranch, and were told we could go back and everything is fine, it didn't come near us. Lots of homes have been lost though, and the city is doing a really good job of letting people know which specific blocks/streets were burned and anouncing that in the sheltered areas.

It's just sad to see the city you were born in, potentially burning to ashes, but that's what you get when you have millions of people call the 'desert' paradise, we just happened to irrigate the hell out of it and build lots of homes that can easily be burned.  It's almost like Florida, why do they continue to live there when you know hurricanes are gonna come, it's just home for me I guess...  Maybe this will get all of the non-natives to leave, that's one good way to look at it! :-)

I live in Rancho Penasquitos (by Rancho Bernardo) and we all evacuated too. It got 0.5 miles away from one of my friends in Escondido (we're all fine). Its been surreal. I wish everyone well as we move forward in such a devastating time.
