I've always had particularly detailed music tastes. Something as simple as an impressive instrument or great music video will greatly change my taste. I can think of several songs recently that I like because of one particular part, its music video, specific lyrics, etc. This is probably very common. But my question is about the music recording process. Those few songs I like due to certain qualities--what if those qualities didn't exist? Or what if the part I like would have been even more indepth or longer? I've read interviews with various artists who specifically state that the recording process changed certain songs quite a bit.
How long do most songs take to record? Are many changes made on the spot? How many retries are taken after the first "run through" is finished? Does the record company require lots of changes at that point?
Now that I think about it, we had a long discussion somewhat related to these questions quite a few months back.
It's just about how a few changes could impact a song beyond belief.
Are we ever going to have music that has every (or most) tracks (instruments, vocalists) separate so we can remix the levels between tracks ourselves? That would be indispensable! I would pay extra to have that abliity! It would completely change music because if you like a particular rap song (sorry) you could reduce that really rappy (crappy?) parts to make it to more of an acceptable song! It's nothing of a breakthrough but would the music industry ever consider this? We'd probably need some new CD technology--CDs on DVDs? One DVD would hold 6 times data so 6 tracks per song and the same number of songs/minutes would fit!
