Converting m4a files
« on: November 06, 2007, 11:54:47 am »

I have a few m4a files in my library which MC12 build 363 plays normally.
However when I've tried to convert them to the mp3 format MC has refused to convert them. The error message indicates the impossibility to "play" them for the lack of an adequate Direct Show filter in my system...
I'm unable to understand the meaning of the message, since MC can play those files regularly.
Is anyone able to help me??
Tks in advance

It is possibly that you can play the files using Quicktime engine. MC tries to play m4a in DirectShow but falls back on Quicktime. To see if you are playing with Quicktime or DirectShow, check whether you can see spectrum analyzer jumping up and down in the File Info area, or see if Visualization would work.

Read this: http://wiki.jrmediacenter.com/index.php/MP4_and_M4A_File_Support

AAC and M4A conversion is only supported when playback is achieved via DirectShow rather than Quicktime.

Thank you for your replies... I'll follow your advice and read carefully the information at the links you've indicated... I hope that the solution is not so far as it seems to me now

It's not too bad.  Just read the links and install the recommended filters and you should be okay.
