I love this view feature! The defaults are obviously Talored for Music, is there a way to add other fields in here to help group my video lists?

It's not only for music -- I like it most for images.

Quite a bit goes into a grouping, which is why they aren't fully user customizable.  However, what groupings would you like added for your videos?

When group by album is selected I would like the description in the group header to use the Album Artist field instead of the Artist field. At the moment if I have an album with just the one album artist but some of the tracks on the album are collaborations, then the description is <Album Name> by <Various Artists> when I would like it to be <Album Name> by <Album Artist>. Of course it would be even better if this was customisable by the user!

And when "Group by album" is chosen, that you can play this album with a one button click iso selecting all the files of this album

what would be nice is, when you have grouped by album and you switch to album listview the grouping disappears. it makes no sence then and you have to go back to an other listview to get rid of it. it would be even nicer if it remembers that it was in album grouping, so when you switch back from album listview it will be grouped again.

Wouldn't it make sense to allow grouping by any arbitrary field?  Just about every MC feature is so powerful because of just that--the features can apply to basically any field.

I suppose it could be quite a bit of extra effort but it's something to keep in mind.

I have an even simpler request, that it be possible to retain the order in PN and just give me the group by display. If i select grouping then i lose that order

..its the easy to read display that makes it appealing than a plain list view.

   Thanks for the response. To answer your question, for my TV shows Id love to have a group by "series" field. it would let me have a nice display of shows split apat by seires and then ordered by season and episode. Im not sure if series is a built in field or a custom one i made, but i though it was built in.
for my movies Id love genre so i can ...well...split my movies by genre.

After reading this, I think we need to add fully customizable grouping.  It's not all that simple, so it may be down the road a bit.  Feel free to remind us.

I'm under the understanding that MC is aiming to have the kitchen sink.  So to some extent, every feature request should be added if its reasonably useful and not too narrow.  However, I understand the delicate balancing issue that comes with MC and J River's other interests.
