Data Base in read mode only
« on: October 08, 2007, 10:32:27 am »

For some strange reason when I try to bring up MC in the morning I'm getting
the following message:  "This Database is already in use by another user" and it
won't come up.  The only way I can get MC to come up is to reinstall the current
release.

I wish that the MC group would answer this problem I'm having

Skylar  ?

There's nobody here  ;)
It appears to be a Vista bug, no-ones entirely sure why this occurs (MC fixed at least one cause for this, but its still occuring in my case), and the easiest solution is to move the library to a different folder.
Open C:\Users\Your Username\AppData\Roaming & copy the whole J River folder to wherever you like. You can then find this new folder in the load library part of MC12.

With any luck the library should now load without any problems from this new location. If not, then there's something else again at play here.
FWIW, if you open a different library at MC startup, and then load the main library from within MC it should also load without issue, although the first solution tends to be less work.

Everytime I've encountered this, it's because I have MC set to minimize to the system tray, and it's minimized, and the icon is set to hide when inactive. So it was actually already running.

First, check to see if another copy of Media Center is running: use Task Manager and look in the Applications table, also in the Processes (Media Center 12.exe will be the name).

Thanks for the ideas, but MC is not set to minimize, I'm using XP...not Vista, and there is only one instance of MC running per task manager.

when you look into the database via windows, is there a lock.jmd file?
if so, can you remove or rename it?

Thanks...I've searched whole computer for a "lock.jmd" file and none appears anywhere.

is it also locked after a reboot of the computer or are you just waking it up?

More info on above: Somehow, another library was created named "default(1)" and MC was opening in this library. I switched to "default" library and re-opened on this and voila...no "read only" message. I don't know how this second library originated, and it appears to be a duplicate of  default, but I have been trying to do a Library Sync to my laptop with no success....a clue perhaps?
