wmv playback and audio distortion
« on: November 14, 2007, 04:24:37 pm »

Greetings

couple of things. I have a client with a tonne of music videos. These are now in WMV format as they were in apple protected format before. Used Tunebite to convert them.

1: some of the videos (not all) will not start at the beginning but instead start where last stopped. How do I force "play" to go to the beginning of the video?

2: Audio volume levels are all over the place. Some quiet. some really loud, some totally distorted. Solutions?

I'm using the directshow filters. When I switched temporarly to windows media player filters...MC crashed on every WMV file...so switched back.

anyone else got some advice on music videos?

For #1, get build 372 from the top of this board.  Also read about the new bookmarking options here:

There is a "Use bookmarking" column you can add.

You can press stop twice to clear a bookmark.

Also, if you have "Previous Button: CD Player Style" set, you can press Previous button to return to the beginning of the video.

On question 2, if you are able to use FFDShow audio decoder, use it. It has a normalize volume level feature.

I'm using the directshow filters.

Which filters?

If you're using FFDSHOW, you can try enabling Normalize in the Volume Control section of the FFDSHOW Audio Decoder Configuration utility.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll try the previous. I believe I'm using FFDShow as I see this come up in the system tray. I downloaded the "CCCP" codec pac.
