I've seen this twice now--once with 8.0.336, and once with an earlier version of 8. I can't re-create it consistently. I can have MJ play music for hours and hours with no problem, if I don't manipulate Playing Now (PN) very much. However, I recently did a LOT of manipulation of PN while MJ was playing--I changed the order of upcoming playback, removed a lot of songs, and added others. I did this a lot over the course of about 3 hours. Suddenly, the music began to "cut out" for about a second or two. It cut out twice, about 5 seconds apart. Then about 20 sec later, it cut out once. Then about a minute later, it cut out 3 times, each about 5 to 10 sec apart. I was not manipulating PN when most of the cutouts took place.
I've seen some discussion of gaps or cut-outs on this forum, but don't remember a specific bug or fix. I'm running 8.0.346 on this system, but 8.0.336 on the system where I had the problem recently. That system has WinXP, a 1.2GHz Celeron, 128MB RAM, and the music is sent digitally through the USB port to a stereo-link and then on to an analog amp. MJ is the only application running.
I'm guessing this is one of those situations where the Wave Out Setting should be adjusted more toward More Skip Resistant and away from More Responsive. I haven't done that yet. What I'd like to know is:
1) What exactly does "More Responsive" mean, i.e. what am I really changing?
2) How far over over should I move the slider? I realize the answer is "until you don't have any more problems", but this I encounter this problem so infrequently that I'd like to make sure it's fixed, but I don't want to saddle the system with an unnecessary limit.
