Thumbnails (large).jmd file zise is too large....
« on: December 15, 2007, 02:39:53 pm »

Are there any where i can trim down the Thumbnails (large).jmd file size? Last time I create thumbnails for my media in the library its getting around 2gig in size. So i have no choice but to make MC to erase all thumbnail to gain back that 2gig from my hard drive. And now i have to reload every thumbnail every time i start MC.

Sorry... Not really.  Your choices are:

1. Buy a bigger hard drive.  2GB isn't much anymore.
2. Remove some of your media files (perhaps the less used ones) from the View Schemes you often browse, so that thumbs never get built for them.
3. Delete some of your media, or move it to removable or external media.
4. Keep doing what you're doing.

13 gigs of what type of media?  Pictures?  I think MC stores a few different sizes.  In my case, go ahead and take lots of space for thumbnails.  I want the speed in MC so caching is king.

Addition: okay, I checked my "Thumbnails" directory.  Assuming that's the correct place to check, I'm at 2GB too and I have ~360GB of music, all with large cover art but more importantly, 38GB of photos...oh and another 500 DVDs with cover art.  Essentially several terabytes of media.

in this case 2 gigs of thumbnails is worth it i think.

I would suggest clearing all thumbnails, making sure the thumbnails directory is empty (delete files???) and then force build all thumbnails (auto import, build thumbnails).  Let it run to completion and see what the size is.  Maybe sort of monitor the size of the folder as it runs and see if it spikes.
