As I add playlists to my ipod, they are being added to the bottom of the playlist list on the ipod, ie not in alphabetic order as they are shown in MC.  With a large number of playlists, this makes it almost impossible to find a particular one on the ipod.  My only solution, so far, has been to delete all the playlists periodically and then load them all again in one batch. Again, not a good solution with a large number of playlists.

Is this a known issue or am I doing something wrong.

I am running MC12, build 318.  It also did the same thing in MC11.

would this be a resolvable issue - I have the same problem, and when the new playlists are added at the bottom, even then, they are not in alphabetical order (?)....

I would like to know, as this would be a deal maker / breaker as far as a purchase goes....

Playlist sort order will be fixed in the next build of the player (12.0.343).

I don't know if this is related, but as of 347, the "Smartlist" order is "better," but not yet fully fixed.  It does group by album correctly (which was not happening before -- thank you for this), but the album order itself is not in any discernible order.  I would have thought that it would be sorted by artist and/or album alphabetically, but this is not the case.  What sort order "should" smartlists end up being in on the iPod?

I am now running MC 12 build 358.  I just tested the "playlist problem" and it still has not be fixed.  Let me quickly restate it.  I transfer 4 playlists to the Ipod in the following order  "blist",  "alist", "dlist", "clist".  They show on the MC Ipod device as "blist", "alist", "dlist", and "clist" .  However on the actual Ipod the playlists are ordered as they were downloaded, "blist, "alist, "dlist", and "clist".

I even re-initialized my Ipod, thinking something in the new builds needed the Ipod properly initialized.  But that did not help, its still the same.

I just installed build 396, re-initialized the Ipod (its an 80G Ipod video) and tested the playlist transfers.  It still does the same thing.  Nothing has changed.

Is your iPod a 5th generation (video) or is it a Classic?

What version is the firmware on your iPod?

Also, can you clarify the expected order of the playlists on the iPod and the actual.

The Ipod is model MA450LL, version is 1.2,  last 4 digits of serial is JV9R.

I expect the playlists on the Ipod to be in alphabetic order (as they are in the MC device listing).  Specifically, "alist", "blist", "clist", "dlist".

The playlist issue we addressed only pertained to 3G Nano's and Classic's. We're looking into the problem on the older iPods.
