I love your development tempo! It's simply fantastic.

I know that the auto-update function in the program don't get the very latest version, and I think that is probably a good choice. But for those of us who updates the program (or tries to) every time you update it, it'd be nice if there were at least an RSS-feed we could subscribe to and get notified when there's a new bleeding edge version out.. I for one would appreciate and use it.

That's a lot of RSS checking to scan just to look for new .exe's.  Several others have asked for this, too.  Maybe a simple email system that would email a newsletter when a new version is released?  A feed would be nice because it would be downloaded automatically but I may not notice.  Email I would notice.

Plus, my podcasts are downloaded at 4 AM.  I pretty much check the forum 3 times a day so I'm more likely to notice myself.

Maybe a text message to our phones?

Or a zapper that shocks Media Centrians?

My current workaround is to subscribe to each release thread (with e-mail) using the Notify button and look for e-mails stating that the topic has been locked.  Usually means a new one is out or is imminent.

Maybe if we had a single sticky locked thread with just the latest build in it.  Then we could use either the notify or RSS for JUST that topic.  For discussion on the latest build have a separate thread created for each build.

Only issue with this method is the latest version would be the last post in the thread and over time may be several pages deep.  Just an idea though.

Yea, they can move comments between threads easily.

So create a thread called Media Center 12.0.404 and then when a new version will be released, rename it to 12.0.40x and move the posts to a different thread.

Or just create a redirect script that redirects a static location to the latest RSS file.

The issue with that feed is it generates ALOT of noise, which would reduce its usefulness of wanting to know when a new update is out.  Eventually you will just stop checking the feed.

The whole point is we want a podcast feed.  It would have enclosure tags with the .exe files so any podcast client would simply download the executables and they would appear in the MC podcast folder.

Lazy is a good term if you only need to keep up with one piece of software.  Some of us actually assist beta testing many pieces of software and this is one of the few that I have to manually check a site for updates.  Never mind checking various of updates.  I am having trouble replying without using the phrase "Welcome to the 90's".
