MC retags not showing up on slim server
« on: January 03, 2008, 03:40:15 pm »

Hey. I rip w/dbpoweramp, manage and retag/rename with MC, and play my music with slim server ("SS"). When I retag prior to a rip, the retags are recognized in both MC and SS. However, if I retag/rename in MC, MC recognizes the change, but SS does not, even when I rescan my entire library. I have even emptied my cache and rescanned with no success. ANy ideas?

I asked this question on the Slim Devices forum but did not get a helpful answer.

Thanks in advance.

I use Slimserver and all my MC changes show up.  You should double check in MC that you have "update tags" checked, otherwise MC will just update the MC library but not the file tags, which is what Slimserver will scan.

In MC, go to Options...General...Importing and Tagging
Verify that the check box "update tags when file info changes" is checked.  Try a rescan and see if things work.

A question and 2 suggestions.

Question: What file format are you using?  (MP3, MP4/AAC, OGG, FLAC, etc)
If you use mp4 files, look for recent threads about MC not writing tag changes back to MP4 files.  (license issues.)

Suggestion:  Look for a fairly recent thread on this forum about viewing the tags as they actually appear in a file.

or

Suggestion: use a separate tag editing program such as MP3tag to view a file's tags.
(Mp3tag free is at http://www.mp3tag.de/en/)  Be aware that there is another program with the same name but different letters capitalized at a different web site.

I've used Mp3tag so I know it works. I find MC to be much better as a tag editing tool but it would give you some extra information.

Rip in Secure Mode with MC12, why bother using anything else?
Make sure that after you edit tags, you select the library option to update tags from library.
AND, then when you re-index SlimServer, discard the library and re-index from scratch.
Works for me...
