My Beta Chart Finder Program
« on: August 10, 2002, 11:38:55 am »

Something I have Been Working On From Time To Time Is A Program To Search A Dir And Look That Song Up On A 11,000 Line Database Of Top 40 Songs From 1940 To 1999.

It Will Look It Up Change The Comment Tag If Found IE "Toped The Chart At 01 In 1954", Change The Genre To "Top 40" Correct The Song Name (If Found), Correct The ID3 Year Tag. And Save The Comment Tag To The ID3v1.1 And Id3v2 Comment Fields.

You Can Also Edit And Add Clip Art (As Many Pictures As You Want) So Your Not Limited To Just One Cover Art Picture.

Use Care It Is A Beta Program (It Works Fine For Me) You May Want To Use It On Some Backup Test MP3 Files First.

I Do Need Feedback

Download It From My Web Page

The Following Song Toped The U.S.A. Charts At 01 In 1954

Cool!  Worth drinking more beer.

What database is it using?  On-line?  or is it downloaded with the program?

It Is Downloaded With The Program, And Can Be Loaded in Excel

It Is A Database I Got From A Music Internet Site That Tracked The Charts.

If Anyone Wants To See What It Will Look Like In MJ

My Media Server: 24.88.229.242:81

There Is 5011 Mp3's In My Media Server.

Most (3000|PLS|) Have Been Found On The Top 40's List. I Plan To tweek the way it finds the songs so it will find more of them due to the way the song name was entered into the id3 tags.

I Should Have Known, When I Get Into My Wifes Car I Always Need To Adjust The Seat.

I Will Fix That (I Fixed It, I Will Update The Package Later Today)

I Will Be Adding Some Data To The Database (About 20,000 Lines Of Data Now). Yes There Is Some Dupes But In Time I Will Correct That.

It Also Adds Data For Year 2000 - 2001

As I'm now at work, I have to ask this instead of simply trying:

Does the program _update_ the commentfield or does it clean the content? I use the commentfield quite extensive and would like to see the programm add something like "; topped the chart..." with the ";" at the beginning (because this is my setting for multiple comments).

Thank you for updating.

well you may not know this, but you can have many comments and even cover art in a id3v2 tag MJ and most programs only show you one.

take a mp3 that you have comments in and copy it to a test folder (make a backup of it) and test it on that file. and see if it is doing something you don't want then let me know. it may overwrite the first comment. this is one area i need to tweek, and i know it.

the program will also allow more than one cover art picture.

well i got the Excel database thru the back door by the web master. but i have a fue and one of them was the british top40 but i do not remember what one it was.

i was thinking i could change the program to use dif databases

world top 40
USA top 40
British Top 40

etc....

basicly I wanted the program to point out to me what songs were popular regardless where they were popular, since i like music from all genres.

I did create a larger database that i got from someone else last week, it had dups in it so yesterday i created a program that looked thru it and removed the dups, but the database is about 17,000 lines right now. this slows down the program alot.

How about a way to selectively choose what tags to set (check boxes?). I've spent a lot of time setting Genre's (for example) and don't want them to be touched. In fact, I may only want the year touched (furthermore, I only want the year set if it is clear). I know, sounds like a scripting language ...

That is not that much.  Why not make all the 20,000 songs available with the MP3 tags already properly filled in.  I understand you already have all of them on your over 100,000 song disks!  Would make my life a lot simpler ;-).  Maybe you could even include an integrated player in the download.  Also could you first run them through the volume analyzer so they would play evenly. The download sites often have less than perfect stuff.  Sounds like enough gurus here to help put toghether a near perfect top 40 database. Thanks for your efforts; keep up the good work.

Yea, I Was Thinking About That

Right now I Am Getting The Program To Run Much Faster.

Today I Am Working On Reading The Database Into The Program Once And Not Everytime It Goes To A New File. - This Has Been Completed

Right Now I Am Working On The Find So Insted Of Taking Over A Min Per File it Finds The MP3 Data In the 16,000|PLS| Line Database In Less Than A Second.

Maybe Later, Thats Not What The Program Originaly Was For And There Are Some Fields That Can Not Be Filled Out Like "Album" And "Track #"

But it will Correct The Artist Name, And SongName If They Are Cut Off.

Basicly Right Now I Am Re-Writing 50% of The Program.

Utopia,

I agree. There are about 10,700 top 40 hits fro 1955 thru today.

I have only scratched the surface.

We need to coordinate this project and all win

>> What About Songs Not In The Top 40?
Locate me a database with all the songs produced and i will see what i can do.

by the way the new changes in the lookup, have made 2560 more hits than before. so i have about 7,000|PLS| Top 40 hits. i am sure some are dups.

soon i will work on scanning all the drives or all folders under the selected path. If i do that i might be able to check for dup files.

also thinking about a move file to folder option if there is a hit on the top 40 db list.

I should have a new build ready later tonight.

BTW: I think i fixed the drive select problem (maybe).

Ok The New Faster Beta Version Is Online (Please Test With Backup Files First!)

You Can Change Some Settings Like Change Genre To "Top 40" Or Leave It Alone. Save The Comment Tag In 3 Formats. Fixed A Drive Change Bug, And A Id3v2 Comment Tag Bug.

I finally got it up and running and it has in fact found some songs and did the comment. But it also overwrites the comment, that might be there (id3v1-tag, the one shown in MJ I think).

Could this be changed or optionized? I don't like that very much, because I put things like "feat." into it.

Also if I click onto the copy tag-buttons the program quits with an error message (it's german here so I don't think you can use this... it says something like "has no text-property").

A very fine program indeed. Usefull!

Just Updated The Program Ver 0.9

Updated: 15-Aug-2002

Better Matching Since The Last Version.

If The Song Name Tags Are Maybe Missing The Last Few Chars. The Program Will look For What It Has In The Tag And Try To Make A Match On The Partial Song name Then Check To make Sure It Is From The Correct Artist.

Deleted About 1,100 Dups From The Database

Corrected The Database where some song names had the "The" At The End Of The Song Name.

Corrected A Problem If you Click On Batch Without First Selecting A MP3 In The List

Added A Count For Exact Match, And Lose Match Hits

I Will Be Looking At That, but Since The ID3v1.1 Tag Is Only 28 Chrs Long It Makes It A Bit Hard.

Maybe And Easyer, It Could Be Placed In Another Field.

I Will Look Into Allowing You To Select Another Field(s) you Can Put It In.

One Would Be The USER Text Field, But MJ Does Not Read This Field Yet.
