Stop fadeouts not working?
« on: February 13, 2008, 08:11:16 am »

Hi. This is strange. The stop playback "fadeout" options (Fast, Slow, Normal) are not working for me. I'm not hearing any fadeouts at all regardless of the setting. If I set it to anything but immediate, when I hit stop, the music continues for a while and then stops. I gather the delay is where the fadeout should be occuring. The weired thing is, cross-fades (between tracks) are working fine.

What can I do to correct this? Sorry, I have no idea when this started. Just noticed it yesterday. Build 433 & 434.

Here's the tail of the log with "Stop: fadeout (slow)" selected. I start a song, hit stop and hear the music play for a second or 2 and then the song ends immediately:-

Fadeout on stop works for me.  What file formats are you playing?

Fadeout on stop runs the volume slider.  If your card doesn't have volume, it won't work.

This is done because the latency of doing it in the playback core (like a cross-fade, etc.) would be a problem for stop, which should be very fast.

I think I understand what your saying. I'm using spdif-out and the volume slider has no effect. Apparently this is a known limitation but I'm sure fadeouts used to work. Is this possible or am I going mad?

What can I do to correct this?

The Internal Volume option should work with SPDIF. Click the speaker icon besides the slider for accessing the setting.

Bingo! You were right. Fadeouts are working now. Thanks very much Alex. I hadn't considered that.
