Media Center 12.0.428
« on: February 02, 2008, 08:52:11 am »

This is the latest version of MC 12.0.  Any MC12.0 license will work with it.  Please post bugs here.  Please start a new thread for anything requiring discussion.  Non-bug posts will be deleted or moved.

This latest build (usually safe) of MC12.0 is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/MC12/MediaCenter120428.exe

12.0.428 (2/1/2008)

1. Fixed: Theater View could have drawing artifacts. (only applies to 427).
2. Optimized: Loading and rendering of tooltips (including full resolution tooltips) happens in a background thread.
3. Changed: Right-click renaming in the tree no longer changes the selection.
4. Changed: Clicking or dragging to "Build Playlist" in the Action Window no longer switches views when allowing naming of the new playlist.
5. Fixed: Drag-n-drop could include unintended files if other buttons were pressed during the drag.
6. Fixed: Some of the install dialogs referenced a non existant icon.
7. Changed: Updated all language files.

12.0.427 (1/31/2008)

1. Fixed: When using Legacy Video Renderer (and possibly EVR) for digital TV, aspect ratio setting did not take effect (Build 426 only).

12.0.426 (1/31/2008)

1. Fixed: The installer would not install correctly on a fresh install (only affects 425).
2. Fixed: String bug that could cause weird handheld tree appearance (only affects 425).
3. NEW: Digital TV allows video renderer selection.
4. NEW: Added the Extended M3U playlist type to the playlist export choices.

12.0.425 (1/30/2008)

1. Fixed: Scheduler was not operating on the correct days (only applies to last few builds).
2. Fixed: The "Date Modified" column could get filled incorrectly on fresh import, and could incorrectly detect changes of existing files.
3. NEW: When doing a portable install, library and option paths are stored relative to the drive so plugging the device into another machine with a different drive letter won't cause issues.
4. Optimized: Improved the speed of the installer.
5. Fixed: MC was unresponsive for 30-45 seconds while it tried to enumerate virtual devices mapped to network paths when the network was down.
6. Fixed: CD ripping didn't work when on-the-fly encoding was disabled.
7. Changed: Secure rip results window shows more precise information related to the rip quality.
8. Changed: The file location property is honored for RAW and HH File caches along with HH conversions.

12.0.424 (1/29/2008)

1. Changed: Title-case formatting will always capitalize the last word.
2. Changed: Theater View draws thumbnail text again in video views.
3. Fixed: CD ripping did not progress correctly when on-the-fly encoding was disabled.
4. Changed: Renamed the "Relative paths" to "Store paths relative to exported playlist location" on playlist export dialog.
5. Changed: DVD video decoder and video renderer selections become zone-specific (just as audio decoder and renderer are).
6. Changed: VMR Configuration settings for DVD and DX Video player become zone-specific.
7. Fixed: Searching directories during import could be slower than necessary.

12.0.423 (1/28/2008)

1. Fixed: DCraw was being called using absolute paths when they should have been relative.  (Turn the RAW cache OFF when testing such things.)
2. Changed: When starting Media Center, if the option to "Run Media Server on Windows startup" is enabled, the Media Server will be started if it is not running.
3. Fixed: The search box didn't update nicely on skin changes.
4. Changed: Moved popup volume adjustment dialog for the iPod into the main handheld options.
5. NEW: Added "Disk Image Files (iso, img.nrg)" to import file types (as Data type).

Is this what I think it is?

Using trackinfos stored in a path which contains a point in it's foldername makes MC cut the Name behind the last point and the screen stay blank.

Example:
"C:\JRiver Media Center\Visualizations\Track Info\Titel . Time . 1024x780\" will be shown as "Titel . Time" in MC menus and if it is selected the screen keeps blank.

2. Changed: Theater View draws thumbnail text again in video views.

Great. I can use Theater View again :) It's been a hard week without it.
I hope there will be more attempts to make the view better. Especialy with thumbnails.

12.0.423 (1/28/2008)
5. NEW: Added "Disk Image Files (iso, img.nrg)" to import file types (as Data type).

Fantastic! Finally I can start auto importing DVD images. Still not able to auto mount and play without the ability to set defaut action to double click for the images, but it's a step in the right direction at least. Thanks.

Not sure how much of a bug this is but I have seen the text at the top turn ultra small at some points--perhaps 12pt.  It has happened a few times at unknown times.

I believe you tried to fix this in a previous build.

File\Library\Export to XML...  used to hang my system. Now it gives me an out of memory error.

Hoping you are able to fix this because I am experimenting with exporting my photo app meta-data and importing into MC.

Re: Media Center 12.0.428
« Reply #11 on: February 03, 2008, 04:06:01 pm »

I just downloaded build 424 yesterday and I'm loving the extra frames I'm getting for theater view full screen display view (I have it set to Damaged Layers IV).  But a problem I've been having for a long time is how I have the visualization screen extended to my secondary monitor, which is a Samsung 32" HDTV.  The issue is mostly moot since the framerate is much more acceptable, but if I change the display quality to anything other than highest quality, the screen would only draw the left 1024 X 768 in a 1360 X 768 resolution, with the remaining right pixels being frozen; this is for both DirectX and Standard settings.  If I right click on the display to bring up the menu, the pixels unfreeze as long as the menu is open.  It happens in full screen as well as windowed.

A new problem is that MC seems to be using 50% CPU during playback with the full screen theater view display view on my secondary monitor (the HDTV).  While that's not a big problem for me, everything in MC slows down considerably except for the fantastic visualization display.  The cover art and the text song info doesn't change until several seconds after the next song starts, and if I use a field like ELAPSED_TIME, it doesn't update regularly.  Worst of all, MC itself won't redraw for a full minute if, for example, I have Firefox open in my primary monitor and switch back to MC, and even then, everything is slow to respond until I pause or stop the music.  Switching to real time priority doesn't change anything.  While gaining all of my performance back by reducing from highest quality to high quality would fix things, I still have the first problem I mentioned.  This problem isn't very significant for visualizations that don't have a lot going on, which of course Damaged Layers IV does.

A third problem is something I don't really care about since I'm getting a new TV tuner card, but I just wanted to report it.  Currently I have an ATI TV Wonder 650 with a dual NTSC/ATSC tuner and every time I try to use it in MC, it hangs then crashes.

Specs:
XP Media Center Edition 2005 rollup 2
2GB RAM
eVGA Nvidia 8600 GTS with 256MB RAM
Intel Core 2 Duo 6400 @ 2.13GHz

Editing Playing Now in Action Window makes MC crash. I only have to move the cursor in the Action Window for round about three seconds and MC crashes completly. Sometimes I can see the text "Expression Error (Unknown)" vor a very short time instead of title and artist. Sometimes I get the MC messagebox "Out of memory" which I never got before.

Here is one error log:
Code: [Select]

Most the time the log ends without an "program crashing" entry and always looks different then. Here is one:

MC keeps on playing and keeps on the screen, but the skin is getting messed up. I can controll MC (if the buttons are visible in the differently "messed up" looking skin version), but when I continue editing in AW there is a Windows error message again:

I'm using Vista on my crashing machine. I am going to try this on XP also. Any ideas what the reason could be?

edit: No crashes with XP

Using trackinfos stored in a path which contains a point in it's foldername makes MC cut the Name behind the last point and the screen stay blank.

If I change tabs whilst typing in the search box, the next tab search will continue to be semi-active, but it will insert a space between every letter typed.

I use a track info for Playing Now. When I start playing whatever song there might be in Playing Now, I see a flash of a track info for a song that has no relation to anything in Playing Now, and it's always the same song. I figured out what the song is and the only thing relative is that it's by the band "3 Doors Down" so it's at the top of the alphabetical list. But even if I went to Audio-Artist or Album, it's still not the first song listed by them. Somehow this song has gotten stuck in MC's memory and it's staying there. It doesn't matter if I change the track info either. The problem does not occur if Cover Art is selected as it seems to be only with track infos.

I can confirm this. For me it's "The way it is" by "Bruce Hornsby & The Range" :)

FLAC cover art / playback [FIXED]
« Reply #20 on: February 05, 2008, 12:51:37 pm »

This bug still exists and was first observed/mentioned for release 12.0.422 (this does not happen wiht 12.0.410).

The scenario:

This started somewhere around 12.0.410 and exists in .422 but it was detected since I haven't ripped CDs lately.

1) Use a different application to rip CDs to .FLAC
2) Extract the embedded jpg cover art into the directory (/artist/album/album_cover_art.jpg)
3) Start JRiver
4) Import new FLAC songs
5) Select new songs and remove the cover art
6) Reselect the new songs and perform a "Quick find cover art"

Everything looks good....

Double click one of the new songs to play and the cover is displayed on the left "display" but the mini-icon disappears (replaced with music symbol) for the playing song and one song before and after.  As I click through the songs the mini-icons continue to disappear and if I reselect a song to play a 2nd time cover are is empty in the left "display."  Also MC complains about not being able to save something (status message bar at the bottom) because the song is currently playing but I've changed nothing.

Now, click on a different playlist and come back to the "Imported This Month" and everything looks like normal, but click a song to play and the whole process repeats.

Finally, this only affects songs imported with v12.0.422 & 428, all previous FLAC songs are perfectly fine.

Please let me know if you need more information.

   Thanks!

   - Jeff

NOTE:  This problem appears to have disappeared by:  Backing up my library, uninstalling MediaCenter, rebooting, reinstalling, and restoring the library.

Anyone know anything about the problems in my previous post?

The previous build I was using was 358.  I just discovered a problem I had with my iPod (it's a 5.5g, I think model MA450LL).  MC gave me a message about iTunes 7.4 being out of date, so, I upgraded to iTunes 7.6, upgraded my iPod firmware to 1.2.3 and then closed down iTunes until I'll need another update a year from now...  After I performed an initialize in MC, I synced my lists and uploaded all my music back.

The problem is the cover art.  If it's a non-standard size (not a perfect square), MC does something weird.  For some reason, it takes the cover art and shoves the image to the right if it's too tall or down if it's too wide and crops it, then it puts the cropped up version in the same space it would fill if it wasn't cropped and puts a blank white space into the unused area of the new image.

Here's one example next to its source image:

Maybe Windows is trying to update itself?

Don't think so. I have Windows set to notify me of updates but not download or install them until I approve them.

Oh, and I was mistaken about it being overnight the first time it happened. It was at 11:54 PM when I returned from leaving the computer idle for some time.

Is this consistant?  If so, I had a similar issue a little while back where if I had logging turned on, I would get an MC crash every day or so.  If it's consistant for you, try turning logging off and see if it still happens.

I was seeing this around build 373.  I never did figure out what was going on before since it appeared to be the logging itself was related to causing the crash, which of course made troubleshooting difficult.  I needed to move on to other issues, and eventually left logging off since along with the crashes, it had a fairly big impact on performance for me.

I would just like to say a big THANKYOU to the developers of J Rivers Media Centre  ;D

I have tried many media management programs in the last few months but finally I have a WINNER.

I have a 60GB iPod Video, 160GB iPod Classic and a Terrabyte of storage on a NAS box. Trying to manage my iPods with the Networked storage has been a real pain. I have now experienced most of what Media Centre has to offer and it is great. There are so many features I love and I have even created a new "Now Playing" template. It was definately worth the money.  ;D ;D ;D

Library Server bug?

Connected via WAN, using same MC versions.

No audio or video files will playback; "points to wrong location".

No documents will open. Not sur ehow this is supposed to work, but Firefox downloads the .doc and when I open they are empty. HTML & PDF files are attempted to be opened in Firefox but pages finishes "done" with nothing displayed/opened.

All thumbs are built for all files. Images fail with "Image failed to load".

I was using MC at home last night with no issues and obviously the system is up. Here's the filename:

Playing music standalone from the iPod does show album art. MC also displays album art when playing from the library. My iPod firmware is 1.2.3 and it was recently updated from iTunes 7.6.

When I play music from my iPod 60 mb classic, I don't see the album art in the display window on my PC.  ? Is this a bug or am I not doing something right? After the resync is when I noticed the issue.

1)- After editing the Comments tag in several albums I discovered that the tag changes did not stick unless I followed the change by using right-click / Update Tags From Library to 'fix' the changes.

2)- When using the multiple Tabs view, setting Options / Panes On Left on one Tab while leaving others set to Options / Panes On Top, the settings do not stick. Upon navigating around the tree and returning al Tabs will be uniformly set to the same Option / Tab On _______.
(all Tabs on the same position, I haven't noticed a pattern as to whether it goes to top or side position as it has done both)
Am I incorrect in assuming we can mix tab positions or is this a bug?
