How can I fill properties from a filename like this.....
« on: February 07, 2008, 05:31:56 pm »

Hi guys,
Was just wondering how I could automatically fill the properties of a bunch of files with filenames like this:

001 - Timbaland ft. OneRepublic - Apologize     [SomethingSameEachTime] (Something_random_that_changes)

The format is this:

[track #] - [Artist] - [Name] <random number of spaces> [Ignore] <random number of spaces> (something Random)

Is there any way to do this automatically?

Thanks :)

Not that I am aware of.

I would first clean up the file names with a power renaming tool like 1-4a Rename.

[edit]
Or you could use MC's Find and Replace on the filename (for example to replace all occurences of 2 spaces with 1 space).

Do you actually want anything after [Name]?

Quote
[track #] - [Artist] - [Name] <random number of spaces> [Ignore] <random number of spaces> (something Random)

Why?

nope - I just want the artist name and track number - the rest I'd happily ignore if possible

cool - I used the find and replace and now have the file down to:

[track #] - [Artist] - [Name] - (<changes every time>)

Any way to easily pull out the 3 front parts and drop the " - (<random text>)" part? :)

I was hoping I could do like:
[track #] - [Artist] - [Name] - (*)
but it doesn't work :(

[track #] - [Artist] - [Name] - []

should work

I've always just used [Ignore] for those kinds of things.

So [track #] - [Artist] - [Name] - [Ignore]
