No, this is only possible within Media Center.

You have to go to

Tools -> Options -> General -> Advanced -> Features
(Extras -> Optionen -> Allgemein -> Erweitert -> Funktionen  ;) )

to select which features you want to see / use.

Actually, you can make the MC12's interface even more streamlined than MJ12's interface.

In MC12, if you don't have video and image files you can simply delete the main Video and Image gategories if they exist in the tree (right-click > Delete). If you want to add videos and images to your library sometime later the gategories will reappear (or the views can be resetted to default).

As STFeder explained you can hide & disable the Start page and some other items completely (Options > General > Advanced > Features).

In addition, you can select the start location that is used on startup (Options > Startup > Startup interface > Location).

Besides changing the feature and startup options you can also hide the possibly unneeded plugins (servers etc) in the plug-in manager (Tools > Plug-in Manager...).

One worthwhile thing in MC12 that I would seriously miss if would have to downgrade to MJ12 is the ability to use Tabs & Split Views whenever needed. (View > Split View...)

Also, you may want to check my How to create nice cover art & artist/album based view schemes thread. The instructions are valid for both programs.

After you have configured one or more personal view schemes that suit your preferences you don't need to keep the tree visible all the time. (You can hide the tree by double-clicking the divider.)
