Wine -- red? white?
« on: August 04, 2002, 04:17:44 pm »

German beer is good, but I have some loyalty to the Dutch when it comes to beer and sailing.

What about wine?  Red or white?  OK, pink, someone will say....

White for me. Can't say why.  Sauvignon blanc, fume blanc, Alsace Riesling (not sweet) or Pinot Blanc.  It's a long list.

This one's for you.

(and for Zevele, in some crazy way)

Prefer the red. Have a one glass of Burgundy a day bought by the gallon. For special occasions love a good Merlot.

My wife and I have just returned from our annual trip to France. We always bring back a load of Cotes de Rhone and Corbieres, good all purpose drinking wine. We also bring a few bouteille's de vin blanc for the hot sunny days(not very often in the UK). All this typing has made me thirsty--where's that corkscrew??

Red. Or white.

My preference is for red. With our trip to Provence coming up at the end of the month She Who Must Be Obayed (she likes that) and I are trying various Cotes Du Rhone wines and the occasional Chateau Neuf Du Pape - the wines from the region we're going to visit. Kind of getting into the spirit of the place we've been looking forward to visiting for so long.

My wife really prefers white although she's getting a taste for Red wines - Sauvignon Blanc, Fume Blanc occasionally a Pinor Noir - not too sweet. Chardonnay tends to be too sweet. Our favorite "keep a bottle open in the fridge" wine is Firestone Sauvignon Blanc. At $6.99 (BevMo) it is definitely the best value everyday white wine we know of.

On a warm summer afternoon or evening I have been known to take a glass of white.

Cheers,
John

Mad Dog 20/20. Sort of purple in color. Know to be of great assistance with a dirty carb also. Just don't get any on your skin.

Somewhere in Northern California I think near Alturus there is a Basque Restuarant that serves a dry red wine with every meal. You can also buy it in unmarked gallon jugs. It is the finest wine I have tasted and when I go through there I always bring back five or six gallons.

I had a friend once that loved MD 20/20. He was the best guitar player I had ever heard all the way through the first bottle. Somewhere at the beginning of the second bottle until he passed out, he was awful. I don't really know if he's still alive or not but I doubt it. A VERY self-destructive individual.
