Hello,

today I attempted two times to synchronize my library with my iPod, first using version .451 and then using the latest .459, but in both cases MC froze, the second time at around 90% of 27Gb (after the first failed attempt, I decided to entirely wipe out the contents of the iPod).

The program icon is present into the running programs, but I am unable to switch to it, the process itself is shown as taking 0% CPU (the CPU time is totally stopped) and 44068Kb of RAM, process explorer shows that the running threads seem to be blocked into the
following function:

ntkrnlpa.exe!KiUnexpectedInterrupt+0x121

but it's hard to tell what is really going on, it would be useful to be able to send you a screenshot attachment but I don't see any option to do it via this message board.
Maybe I could try to export the DB and then reimport it, may it be useful to also enable MC logs?

This just started happening to me too after an update to build 459. I also compressed the database and removed 172 files.

It is happening on two ipods a classic 160gb and a 5.5 80gb (which also got scrambled artwork).

I'm e-mailing you the log (olarte) as requested.

For now I make sure the hotsync is complete (in the deatils of the ipod screen on MC then hit cancel...

Matt, I went back to Build 456 and the problem went away (at least with the classic).

I can now sync, and while it hangs for a bit at 83% it does finish up 1-2 minutes later.

I'll try the ipod 5.5 when I get home, and let you know if it is still broken.

I hope (but doubt) that the artwork (small not the large) will be fixed. I assume there is no way to rebuild that other than to resync everything?

Thanks for the log.  It showed right what the problem was -- when a playlist hash (somethings we use internally to check for iPod changes) got too close to 64-bits long, it caused a loop to overflow and never finish.

It should be fixed next buid.

 Did you by any chance use the new Compact Database function? I wonder if that had anything to do with this.

I dunno about build 451 but I went back to build 456 and that seems to have fixed the problem at least on my Ipod classic... dunno about the 5.5 yet.

No problem. It does not explain though why the small thumbnails on the ipod 5.5 got scrambled... could that have been caused by the database compression?

Is there any other way to rebuild that database (in itunes etc) without having to re-initialize the ipod?

Well, I enabled the logs before performing the synchronization again but they are about 50Mb, so it's a little hard to send them
completely to you, I guess...
I can tell you that this time the procedure went straight to 99%: the loading of the files finished, but I think that upon writing the iPod DB something went wrong again, because since 15 minutes ago the CPU load of MC is constantly about around 50% and it's still working... I think I'll MC very soon.
My iPod is a 5.5g, I'm sorry I didn't mention it, maybe this information could be useful.

I'll try downgrading to .456 and see if something changes, maybe it would be useful to think about a procedure to recover the synchronization just from the iPod DB writing phase.

Well, I canceled the synchonization (what did I have to lose?) and the operation seems to have completed
as if it had successfully terminated: all the entries of my library are shown as "On Device" and they are also visible onto the iPod!
Next time I'll try this sooner... :-)
Hope anyway that next release will fix this. ;-)

Just for reference, the log after I chose to cancel, I think it has something to do with playlists after all...
BTW... a more readable timestamp would be useful also for us "mortals", just to make searches easier.
