Just messing around, I have found that foobar will in fact analyse the replay gain of these files and store the info in the tag.
However MC does not update these changes in the tag.
Neither does it allow manual changes.

I have finally said goodbye to the evil, clunky, resource chewing program that is iTunes.
Unfortunately its legacy is still living on, as I have a heap of aac files.

I listen almost exclusively to random playlists, so replay gain is very handy.

having researched the forums a bit i think I have determined the following

RG analysis tags from foobar uses a different format and tag info to MC.

Therefore if MC can't analyse aac files I have the following options.

Convert files to a different format that MC can analyse (if so which would be best to keep same file size and quality)
Re rip all my CDs (please no)
Find a program that will analyse and tag the files in a way that is compatible with MC.

Am I on the right track?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

MC can analyze aac files if you enable DirectShow playback and have needed DirectShow filters.

I have no idea what I'm doing but now it works

After going to options - video - directplayback settings

i then selected m4a and clicked select filters

picked a couple at random and voila! it works

hope i haven't mucked up the playback quality at all
