Avoiding clutter after rebuild (playing video)
« on: April 05, 2008, 11:56:53 pm »

Just after a bit of advice.

After a clean install, i want to avoid as much clutter as I can and just install what is needed.

I am using XP SP2 and have my laptop connected to an AV receiver via optic cable from an external USB soundcard

i see no reason to use any other media player other than MC and WMP11

I play the following media:

Range of audio files (MC seems to have this covered)
Video Files: mainly DivX and Xvid. Some quicktime mov files. Some mpg files. Mp4 files that get synced to ipod.
I also on occasion watch streamed real player files
I use MC for DVDs and digital TV (using acfilter to send passthrough Digital DVD info)

What other codecs/other programs would also be needed to play all the above files with the minimum amount of clutter and confusion

Your simplest bet would probably be to just download the CCCP . It sets up pretty much every codec you would ever need all from one installer.

You don't need WMP.  MC can play anything it can if you have the right DirectShow filters.  There is a Video section and a DirectShow section on our Wiki.  Read about CCCP there.
