Autoplay starts even with Audio CD option disabled
« on: August 03, 2002, 12:43:41 pm »

Hi,

There have been a couple of Autoplay posts, but none address my problem.  I have disabled Audio CD in MJ8 File Association, but MJ still starts when I insert an Audio CD into a drive that has Auto Insert set.

It starts looking for CDDB and often crashes, as I try to turn it off at that point.

Is there a way to disable this behavior?

You need to turn off auto-insert in Windows.  I don't remember where it is.  Control panel/system/device manager?  Or right click on the drive in My Computer?

Thanks,

I do know how to disable AutoPlay in Win98.  I have hoping to leave on for other purposes.

What does the "Audio CD" in MJ8 File Association do?

If you look half way down the page I gave you the link for, you'll see instructions (Method 1) on how to reset Audio-CD association to default. This will leave AutoPlay working for CD-ROM's but not for Audio-CD's. You can also use the same method to associate Audio-CD's with another programme, like cdplayer.

Alternatively, you can make MJ not automatically use CDDB under Settings->Options->Device Settings. I think you can still do it manually.

What do you want to happen when you put in an Audio-CD?

This is exactly what I was looking for.  I found MJ associated with Audio CD at that place and removed it.

Sorry, I did not read far enough on the page.

Nothing! :-)  I like to start things "when it's time", not before :-)
Particularly when it triggers a series of events I did not plan on and often results in the app crashing.
