Let's just imagine that I've ripped one or more of my DVD's to my hard drive. Let's say the rip was at a 1:1 data ratio, no further compression from the DVD. All the bup and ifo files are there and MC handles them perfectly!
Some of these movies I want to compress for space only, while others I want to leave as they are and let MC deal with all the different files. Like I said, MC handles it like a dream.
1. What is the current standard for high-compression codec--DIVX, or something else?
2. Whichever codec needs a FREE converter or FREE method of conversion. Most DVDs are running 5-6 GBs per. I would like to get this to 3 GB or less, at the extreme. (Remember, these are the stinker movies).
3. What's the recommended (FREE) re-authoring software? In a perfect world, I don't even want chapters, let alone all the garbage they tack onto the front, for example, 10 minutes of previews.
Thanks!
