AVI files added as audio?
« on: April 17, 2008, 08:29:04 am »

Hello,

Yesterday I dragged and dropped two AVI files into MC (v12.0.475) and found that they didn't show up in under Video.  Low and behold they were sitting in my audio section.  When I double-clicked on them the little display window showed my video playing normally and I could double-click that and watch full screen.

But something wasn't right, so I deleted them from the library and put them in a folder and set Otto to find them.  Same thing - they ended up in my Audio section.

The files definitely have an .avi extension and Windows sees them as avi's (gives me a thumbnail, shows relevent "open with" options).

Any ideas?

AVI files aren't always video.

Here's a Wiki entry that may help:

They play as video in MC and VLC... but they show up in the audio section of my library and without video-specific tag options.

Plus they are 350MB TV episodes... that's a lot of data for audio. ;)

when its only for those two files, go to the tags of the two inside MC12 and change the media type from audio to video. when the problem occurs often, follow the link from JimH post.

Thanks - I changed the couple of tags and they work like a charm.   8)
