How to update music files?
« on: April 28, 2008, 04:34:07 pm »

I have always wondered about this and there is probably an easy way to do it but here goes the question anyway:

Lets say i have an album that is 192 bit rate and then later i come across a 320 bit rate version of it, what i used to do in the past was delete the 192 bit rate album completely and then import the new 320 bit rate version, only problem is that then it shows as my latest imported album and not on the date that it was originally imported and then i have to reapply my rating to it as well. Is there a way to simply update existing music files in an album if you would so the import date and rating would stay the same, just that the files are now 320 bit rate instead of 192 bit rate?

Sorry for the long explanation, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure the new filenames are the same and copy them over the existing ones. Then in MC, select the existing songs and right-click Library Tools - Update Library (from tags). That "should" work.

And if you are actually changing filenames, there's a way to do that too!

In that case, make sure you have any background auto-importing turned off, then see this thread for how I managed it...
