Zone 2 audio mixing with zone 1 audio.
« on: May 15, 2008, 05:25:59 pm »

Has anyone had a problem with zone 1 and zone 2 audio mixing together?  I would like to preview tunes in zone 2 with headphones on my PC laptop while a DJ playlist is playing live through the speakers in zone 1.

I've configured zone 1 to play through a PCI XTreme Audio Notebook sound card
Output Mode:  Direct Sound
Device:  Speakers (XTreme Audio Notebook (Vista))
Channels: Default Channels

Zone 2 is configured to play through the sound card built into my laptop
Output Mode:  Direct Sound
Device:  Speakers/Headphones (Sigma Tel High Def)
Channels: Default Channels

The zone 2 tune plays through the headphones as configured for one tune.  As soon as I stop the tune in zone 2 and play the next one it mixes in with the zone 1 tune through the main speakers.  Somehow the XTreme Audio sound card appears to override the zone 2 configuration.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

By the way, the link to Mastiff's Multi-Zone site appears to be out of date.

Wow, that's a new one to me! I haven't had mixes on two separate sound cards (even though you can have it with the kX drivers for Creative st up wrong). Have you tried to mess around wih the channel settings?

And I'm in the process of moving the Doghouse to a new server (one I have for my mastiff kennel pages), but for now you can find it on http://home.no.net/mastiff/multizone.htm

I was hoping you wouldn't say that.  I really need this feature to DJ properly.

I checked out your website.  It's written in Norwegian.  I can translate the text to English with Google, but it doesn't read as well as an English version would.  Is there an English version of your website?

I've tried different combinations of channels and I also messed around with some of the sound card options in Vista (turning on and off the option for programs to take control of sound card) without success.  I'll try some more combinations this weekend.

That's the article series. Under the list box navigational menu you can access English text, but unfortunately it's a mess right now because of the changes.

I found the problem.  The zones work as configured when I play a wav, mp3 or FLAC file.  When I play an m4a Apple Lossless file in zone 2 it mixes with the audio in zone 1.  I'll start a new post.

OK, then I'm out of my area. I am like Manuel in "Fawlty Towers" when it comes to any proprietary Apple files: "I know noooothing!"
