Horrible Playback of CDs in Media Jukebox 8 on WinXP
« on: July 31, 2002, 11:30:56 pm »

I'm hoping I can get some help with a CD playback problem I'm encountering.

I have (or actually my wife has) a Compaq Presario 700 with WinXP Home Edition.  It has an LG DVD-ROM DRN8080B drive, 256M RAM, and a 900 Mhz AMD Duron processor.  I can play audio CDs in Windows Media Player (provided I have error correction on), in WinAMP, in RealOne player, and in MusicMatch without problems.  However, when I try playing them in Media Jukebox they sound horrible.  They skip and stutter and just don't play correctly.

I purchased Media Jukebox for my Win2K box and haven't had any problems.  I am running it on my wife's laptop (described above) and am not successful.  I like the product, I just want it to work!  I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app and the CD plug-in separately.

Please help!

Thanks,

Kirk

What playback method are you using? You'll find it under
Settings->Options->Device Settings
Try Digital Secure or Digital Error Correcting.

It may be that digital playback doesn't work well on that PC, so try switching CD playback to analog.

The "Digital Secure" and "Digital Error Correcting" options are under "Audio CD Copy" and don't seem to impact simple playback.

Switching to analog does eliminate the playback problem, but then I am not able to play all the tracks on the CD one after the other.  With analog set, it just stops at the end of each song.  Of course, with analog you don't have available any of the effects (such as cross-fade, gapless, etc.)

I don't think analog is a viable work around.

Thank you both for your suggestions.  Any additional help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

In Plugin Manager, play around with the Input -> CDA plugin settings.  Maybe something in there will make it work...

Let us know.

You must be selecting a track.  Try selecting the correct CD from the tree on the left, then pressing play.  Or select all the tracks and press play.
