Are ASPI driver needed anymore for Digital extraction from a CD?
« on: September 09, 2008, 04:26:25 pm »

Hi,

In the good old days of yesteryear we all had to download ASPI drivers either from Adaptec or Nero to get the best possible digital extraction from CD drives. This has been true of all windows version (although I'm not sure about Vista) and even a lot of CD ripping software requires these drivers.

What is the deal here and are they required for MJ/MC?

You can have ASPI drivers installed if you need them, but I think ASPI is more or less a non-issue with modern devices and software.

Probably most users don't even know what ASPI means. The native Windows commands seem to work fine with typical CD/DVD devices.

Thanks for this, just interesting to note. I have wondered about the need for ASPI on newer machine and OS, but sometime you don't question what you have alwasy done.
