thumbnail with files showing question and a request
« on: June 22, 2008, 08:00:01 pm »

I've tried all the settings I can and saved view schemes but I can't quite get what I want. I would like to see nothing but albums covers when browsing the audio library, then when I click on an artist I would like to see the files in the pane at the bottom.  Right now this works to a point, when I click on an artist another window opens, and the files do show - all the songs by that artist. But when I go back to the view of all artists, that pane remains open.

A little problem happens here too, if I click on that thumbnail of an artist and open that new window, under Name it just shows the track number instead of the song name. In the pane below, the Name is correct.

The request is that, after a specified period of time of not using the mouse or keyboard, the display defaults to a specified view, in my case, Playing Now. And once that happens, moving the mouse reverts back to the previous view.  I realize I can just hit the back button, this is really for parties so I don't have to explain how to add files to everyone, I would like to make it intuitive.

This sounds like the view scheme may have "Track #" in it.  Try something simple like Artist \ Album.  Then pick "Artist" from the view's menu.

Interesting idea.  It's basically a screensaver that uses Playing Now.

IIRC the view scheme did have track number, that should fix the problem when I get home.

What about that pane at the bottom showing files when I'm browsing by artists with thumbnails.  I've unchecked "Always show files" there, and checked it when I'm in the view that shows the individual albums by a particular artist.

is "always show files"  a global setting?

This could actually be very useful for those who have their computers hooked to their HDTV (I hope to soon) to prevent burn in. An option to have the screen go completely black for a second at specified intervals would be good.
