last.fm and musicbrainz

does the built-in last.fm use the outdated method of only submitting Artist/Album/Title, or does it use the proper method of also submitting musicbrainz id's when present in tags?  Is there a way to scrobble what media center plays with some other plugin which will submit the musibrainz ids?
