MC plugin for Slim devices (Squeezebox) Duet Remote
« on: July 01, 2008, 08:38:51 pm »

I've playing around with different ways to access my J River Media Center library through the Slim Devices Duet remote controller.  To interface with MC, I am using the remote server.

Here is a screencast of the applet in action.
http://www.screencast.com/users/Planktonic/folders/Default/media/a7d04731-4c21-4c8a-b39b-227512d26f0d

The screencast shows my MC app running on the SqueezePlay Jive environment. SqueezePlay emulates the functionality of the Duet remote. The app itself runs on either the Squeezplay PC app or on a Duet remote controller.

Currently the output plays through the currently selected MC zone.  I think that combining this capability with the MC2slim app should allow for Squeezebox output rather than just MC output.

I'm heading out for vacation until next week. I plan to polish up the code a bit and I'll post it next week on the slim devices pages, though it'll still be an early work-in-progress effort...

The applet code to run on SqueezePlay or the SqueezeController (the remote) is now available. You would either need to own the SqueezeController remote or compile and run the SqueezePlay PC app to try this applet out.

Get it at:

See the Slim Devices wiki pages for details on getting applets to your remote.

This is more of a proof of concept at the point, and will hopefully evolve in to something more complete in the future.

I'll have a dabble with this and see how it plays with MC2Slim.

I'm not having much luck here, I've got it instaled on the controller but when I click on 'take me to the river' nothing happens and i get a' Error sharing file, no file requested' message on the library server.

Thanks for trying it out.  It sounds like you are trying to hit the library server rather than "remote server". This applet uses the remote server, which can be enabled in Preferences: Startup->Run remote server on port x.

Yes you're right. I've got it working now and with MC2Slim to control a Squeezebox too!!!
I'll have another play later and get back to you.
