ASPI Mismatch
« on: July 30, 2002, 06:17:09 am »

I've started getting this message when I try to rip a CD.

It has been determined that there is a version mismatch in the ASPI software on your system.  Some CD ripping and burning capabilties may be limited due to this.  Would you like to have ASPI automatically downloaded and installed?

I click on Yes and reboot.  And then I get the message again.
I click on Yes and reboot.  And then I get the message again.
I click on Yes and reboot.  And then I get the message again.
I click on No and proceed to rip the CD.  And it appears to work fine.

Is there a problem with my system?

Can you try 336.  I think that problem was fixed.  It's on the downloads page.

It's still a problem in 336.

I don't think there's any problem with your system. From your system info print-out, it looks like you have matching versions of wnaspi32.dll and aspi32.sys. I thought this bug was fixed but apparently there is still a problem with how MJ analyzes the version numbers.

Please try the next build to see if it works better. We made a small change that hopefully will fix the problem.

Thanks,

I have the same problem w/ 336

MJ Sysinfo:
Media Jukebox PLUS 8.0.336
Install Path: d:\MediaJukebox\

CPU: Intel Pentium III 698 MHz MMX
Memory: Total - 392 MB, Free - 227 MB
OS: Microsoft Windows 2000  Workstation 5.0 Service Pack 2 (Build 2195)

Internet Explorer: 5.50.4807.2300
ComCtl32.dll: 5.50.4807.2300
Shlwapi.dll: 5.50.4807.2300
Shell32.dll: 5.00.3502.4718
wnaspi32.dll: 4.57 (1008) , ASPI for Win32 (95/NT) DLL, Copyright © 1989-1997 Adaptec, Inc.
Aspi32.sys: 4.71 (0001)

Aspichk results: (from aspi471.exe from adaptec site)
ASPI32.SYS   V4.71.1
WOWPOST.EXE   V4.61 (1021)
WINASPI.DLL   V4.6 (1021)
WNASPI32.DLL   V4.5.7 (1008)

What may be happening is the system isn't letting the installer overwrite the existing files w/ the updates (though the ASPI installer doesn't say there's a problem). I will try to manually copy them over.

*** ASPI problem solved ***

1.) You need to extract aspi471.exe into a temporary directory (make note of where)
2.) Close down every app (especially MJ)
3.) From the Start menu select Run and browse to the /adaptec/aspi directory, select and run aspiinst.exe
4.) If all goes well it will prompt you to reboot
5.) After reboot run aspichk.exe

MJ sys info should look like this: (last 2 lines)
Media Jukebox PLUS 8.0.336
Install Path: d:\MediaJukebox\

CPU: Intel Pentium III 698 MHz MMX
Memory: Total - 392 MB, Free - 247 MB
OS: Microsoft Windows 2000  Workstation 5.0 Service Pack 2 (Build 2195)

Internet Explorer: 5.50.4807.2300
ComCtl32.dll: 5.50.4807.2300
Shlwapi.dll: 5.50.4807.2300
Shell32.dll: 5.00.3502.4718
wnaspi32.dll: 4.71 (0001) , ASPI for Win32 (95/NT) DLL, Copyright © 1989-2002 Adaptec, Inc.
Aspi32.sys: 4.71 (0001)

Excerpt from readme.txt:
1)   It is important the following pairs of files have matching version numbers:
(you may not have all of these files; which files you have in your PC depends on which Windows platform is in your PC)

    a)   wnaspi32.dll  and  aspi32.sys
    b)   wnaspi32.dll  and  apix.vxd
    c)   winaspi.dll   and  wowpost.exe

I installed 336 earlier today, and I no longer get the message.  And so I'm satisfied.

I did a search...
I found aspi v470.zip in Media Jukebox\Data\Packages\
And I found aspi471.zip in Local Settings\Temp\ASPI Drivers\

I'm not sure, but it sounds meaningful that MJ says 471 while it has a copy of 470.

Sure enough aspichk reports different version numbers, so MJ is right.  However, MJ's auto install doesn't work, just as Sam reported in his first post.

I'll reinstall tomorrow when I'm a little more awake.

MJ's aspi install process will take care of unzipping the "zip file within a zip", but it appears that in some cases the install fails due to the inability to overwrite one of the existing aspi files. We'll get this fixed, but in the meantime (Shelly) you can do either:

1. If you're comfortable running DOS batch files, shut down MJ and all other programs, open a command window and go to the directory where the 4.71 install files are located and run the command "install xp32". Reboot. MJ should stop complaining about version problems.
Unlike on Win2000, you can't use the aspiinst.exe program for XP.

- or -

2. Let MJ do it: Rename your wnaspi32.dll file which is in the system32 directory (under your windows directory), then reboot the system. Now run MJ and let it install the aspi stuff.

if anyone is interested we've got a file that bypasses aspi entirely on win nt/2k/xp that I can email to you if you want to try it out. It's just a small file that goes into the Media Jukebox program directory.

Thanks,
John T.

I did this first and after rebooting, the wnaspi32.dll still wasn't updated and MJ continued to report the mismatch.

I did this next and the file was successfully updated and MJ no longer reports a mismatch.
