Help with converting m4p
« on: September 03, 2008, 10:03:20 am »

Hi,  I have been able to convert m4a files to mp3 and wma, but I have lots of songs in m4p format. I would like to know what I can do, cause I need them to sync my Creative Zen.
Thank you!

The simplest way is to use iTunes to burn audio CDs of your m4p files, then re-import and re-encode into a DRM-less format.

If you are converting M4A (non-protected!) dBpoweramp works great. If the files, however, are copy protected you'll need a different method. Physically ripping them would definitely be a pain in the bum! Try Noteburner v2.2. It creates a virtual CD burner which ITunes recognizes. You can then set the virtual CD burner as the default burner in ITunes. All you need to do is create a playlist with all of the protected M4A files (or M4P files). Noteburner will rip only to MP3, WMA or WAV.

There are ways to get rid of the DRM without the quality degradation of the CD-burning workaround.  I'm not going to link to them, but Google should be your friend.  The DRM you want to remove is called FairPlay.  Once it is removed, MC should be able to convert it for you to whatever format you want.

This is not a discussion appropriate for this forum.  I'm locking the thread and will remove it.
