Library Sync Crash.
« on: May 26, 2008, 03:18:48 pm »

I ran library sync to transfer my audio library to a second computer.   I did not do any conversion of the format just left it as WAV.   It rasn for about 30 hours and ony copied 7700 of the 9150 songs.  Now when I try to restart it to capture the rest of the files it just ends.  It goes through the anyalize phase and then terminates media center at different file numbers.  I've sent about 20 error screens to microsoft.  Is there anyway to correct this?  If I just copy it It does not retain any fields.  If I use Fill Fields it fills each field with everything and I still need to go in and edit 9150 members.   That takes 4 or 5 days to do.  Any help would be appreciated

We need more info: take a look at the original library. What file types are there?
Is it audio only? Video and images too?

The files are audio wav files and there are also album cover art jpeg files mixed in.

Could you post the tail of a log (Help > Logging) after a crash?

We've heard this before, but haven't been able to reproduce it.

Thanks for any help.

I'm having the same issue. Both computers using latest beta (i updated because i was having the same problem with the general release. I'm trying to sync a library containing about 3500 mp3 files. The program crashes at a different point in the sync each time. I don't see a way to attach a file, so here's the tail of two logs:

example 1:

Thanks for the log.

What does the Action Window say for a stage when it crashes?  For example, "Merging existing files" or "Downloading new files", etc.

We're also adding more logging to Library Sync for a version of the player that should be available early next week.  It may help shed some more light on this.

Thanks.

You're gonna love this... I dl'ed the latest version today and library sync still crashes, UNLESS I TURN ON LOGGING! Then it runs flawlessly. I tried this several times with logging on and off. The results were repeatable. It always crashes during "merging existing files", but not consistently in the same place.

That points to a timing bug.  We'll do some testing with logging disabled.

If you ever get a crash _with_ logging enabled, please email it to matt at jriver dot com.  The new logging should show us right where it fails.

Thanks.

That was just the clue we needed.  There was a threading issue between the library sync thread and progress display in the Action Window.

Look for a fix in a version of Media Center 12 that should be available next week.

Fantastic -- thanks! There's nothing as sweet as responsive tech support. I feel a lot of loyalty toward your excellent software. Have you folks ever considered a referral program, where folks like me could earn free upgrades? There are a lot of folks I know who really don't like iTunes!
