I've noticed for a while that MC seems to use a lot more memory than I would think is necessary and it is always increasing. I've read some older threads on this, but didn't find anything useful. I've tried disabling my virus checker and I've tried disabling all plugins. Currently I'm using MC 533.
For me, after starting up MC is using upwards of 50MB (that's with 6,600 tracks in Playing Now). Unfortunately, this usage seems to increase every time it plays a new track. One thing I should mention is that I'm accessing the library over a VPN to a network drive. I don't know if this makes a difference.
Minimizing and restoring the MC window does seem to free some memory, but not all of it and not the leak associated with playing new tracks. Some stats are below with mem sizes is MB.
State | Mem Usage | VM Size |
Track 1 | 51 | 89 |
1 minimized | 21 | 82 |
Track 2 | 56 | 96 |
2 minimized | 23 | 82 |
Track 3 | 55 | 93 |
Track 4 | 55 | 92 |
Track 5 | 56 | 93 |
Track 6 | 56 | 93 |
Track 7 | 55 | 92 |
Display View | 58 | 93 |
Track +1 | 61 | 96 |
Track +2 | 67 | 101 |
30 mins later | 80 | 118 |
30 mins later | 101 | 138 |
60 mins later | 173 | 210 |
minimized | 21 | 195 |
restored | 40 | 199 |
After track 7 I didn't see any increase so I switched to Display View (track info Noire), which is how I usually leave MC playing.
