Alcohol
« on: September 17, 2008, 04:36:03 pm »

Well My Fight With Alcohol Is Not A Good One.

Liver Enzymes Over 5 Times The Norm (The Highest It Has Been).

Got To Go Back To A Specialist To Have Him Tell Me To Quit Drinking And Lose Weight.

Ultra Sound In Two Weeks

I Am Not Jaundice So That Is Good.

I Will Be Weaning My Self Off Alcohol For The Next Week So I Don't Have A Seizure.

Being At My Mom And Dads House Will Not Help, Both Of Them Drive Me To Drink When I Am At Home.

I Think My Mom And Dad Are 78 Now, He Still Knows How To Drive To The Bay And Corner Store But Not Much More Than That. He Has Been On Some Alzheimers Meds For The Past Year Or So They Help.

Whats That Song "That's Life"

Issues there run in my family... I'm reasonably sure (based on my experiences with nicotine) that I'm of the susceptible variety.  Gotta keep an eye on myself... I really, really, really like wine.

Good luck, King.  The most important step is convincing yourself that your really want to.

360 days dry for me. In 5 days maybe I'll try to quit nicotine.

Both sides of my family have addictive tendencies.

Good luck King. You'll like not having a headache in the morning.

And it ain't gonna help that Amazon is going to sell wine now.  I'll actually be able to buy wine through MC!  (Actually, Maine is excluded because we have stupid laws, but you're in trouble Jim.)

Not Going To Good

I Have A Appointment With A Shrink Nov 18th, Because My Dr Will Not Prescribe Me Antabuse Or One Of The Other Three Drugs. Due To The Fact She Has Never Done It Before.

I Am Drinking Less (Except For Sunday When I Drank A Bottle Of Rum)

I Have A Spot On My Liver (I Am Sure The Rum Helped)

I Normally Only Have 4 Drinks Or Less.

I Have Found When I Am Not Drinking I Get Verbally Abusive.

I Am Not Drinking In The Morning Or Lunch Like I Was.

It Gets Harder To Quit Each Time I Do.

One Time A Few Years Ago I Did Not Drink For 3 Years.

I'm going through this with a family member right now and it is heart breaking for everyone involved.

I struggle with alcohol myself.  I keep a lid on it but I always want another one.

I've talked with a lot of people about alcoholism, and they usually speak highly of AA.

Thanks for being open about it.  I wish you the very best of luck in searching for an answer.

I have been a drug and alcohol counselor for the past five years.  The majority of my clients who get sober do so through a good 12 step program: AA/NA.  Getting involved with people who share the same issues can be a huge benefit.  Sponsorship, forming a strong relationship with someone who has attained a good deal of clean time, is essential.  I have had some clients who have had success with smart recovery (http://www.smartrecovery.org/).  I believe alcoholism is a disease in that it is chronic, progressive, and incurable.  Similar to medical ailments, such as cancer, you should seek some professional treatment.  Detoxing off alcohol can be more dangerous than heroin or cocaine.  You might look into available detox/treatment centers in your area.  There is really no pill that is going to make everything easier. I wish you the best.

Lyrics To A Song Of How I Feel Right Now

I tried so hard and got so far
But in the end, it doesn't even matter
I had to fall to lose it all
But in the end it doesn't even matter.

Yesterday I Dropped Off A List  To My Dr Of Controlled Drugs, To Help With Alcohol Abuse

She Called Me Today And Told Me I Need More Help Than She Is Qualified To Give, And That I May Need To Go Into A Rehab Facility For Two Weeks.

She Told Me To Keep My Drinking To A Minimum, No More Than 4 Each Day, And Don't Lie To My Wife Or Her When She Askes How Much I Drink And Not To Hide Any Alcohol (That I Was Drinking Without Her Knowing) From My Wife.

Don't worry, the forum will probably be better off without it anyway.

I'm rooting for you over this side of the pond too Mark.
Alcohol did for my Father-in-law... that was a wierd time that I won't go into right now.

When I was real young, my parents rented a cottage on a working farm for about six months... pigs!!! phew. Even today, one whiff of that whips me back almost 40 years in the blink of an eye.

I tried to stay away from the pigs, they would attack me., of course so would the chickens when i went to get the eggs for breakfast.

I Only Had 2 Beers Yesterday, Only Because I fell Asleep Watching TV. I Realize I had A Setback Last  Week, But I Am Still Trying To Cut Back. I Know Once I Quit I Can Quit For Sometime, And If They Ever Give Me Something To Help The Magic Pill Maybe That Will Help Also. I Am Not The Type Of Person To Go To AA Meetings Because I Am Anti-Social, And Introverted, Even Thou I Am A Type A Person (That Came From My Years in The Military). And I Force My Self Every Day To Move Out Of My Comfort Zone

I Would Be Fine If I Never Talked To Anyone Again And Stayed In My House (That Reminds Me Of A Twilight Zone Show) Only To Look Out The Windows Of My House With Binos So I Can Spy On My Nabors.

I Got A Letter Of Cease And Desist From radio gold index The Other Day because Some Of The Data On My Logs Looks Like His.

I Got Contacts And New Glasses (Like $800 Or So)

I Donated $245 To The Group "Old Time Radio Researchers Group"

I think Someone Called Human Resources On Me. Because I Said Something About The Witch In The Office About How She Was Acting And Throwing Items At People.

Someone Called It Was A Man He Was Abusive On he Phone And Asked For The Corporate Phone Number. I *69 The Phone It Came Back The Office Managers House (The Lady Causing Havoc). One of Our Other Secretaries Quit Because Of Her Antics. They Are Trying To Get Deb To Come Back To Work.

I Did some Spying On The Corporate Website Stating That My Branch Needs A Branch Manager. That's Interesting Since We Have One. I Can't Wait Till He Leaves (I Think He Is Bi-Polar).

All In All A Interesting Week, I Am waiting For The Dust To Settle.

Group 3 hrs A Day

Nov 17, 18, 20, 24, 25, 26

Dec 1, 2, 4

Basically Mon, Tue, Thur, And We Have A Good Counselor That Keeps Things Exciting, And Learning Fun

I Go To Group Until 12 Jan 2008, 9 Hours A Week

I Have Not Drank Since The 29th Of October 2008

One Of The Things I Have Learned Is When I Start Thinking About Drinking Is To Quickly Try To Change My Thoughts. There Are More Things I have Learned That Helps Me Deal With Not Relapsing.

I Have Asked My Wife To Come On Thursdays Because It Is Family Day, And She Is Having Her Work Schedule Changed.

One Thing That Does Not Help Me Is She Continues To Drink Her One To Two Glasses Of Wine Each Day. I Have Not Asked Her To Not Drink, But It Sure Would help Not Having Alcohol In The House.

AA

Dec 2nd

Was Boring, It Seemed They Have Fallen Into A Routine. The Counselor Said That They Are All Different And Some meetings are better than others.

good to hear, king.
dont know if you want to know or if i should tell this, but a small story. my brother in law also was alcohol addicted. he was in rehab. my sister had already banned all alcohol out of the house and only drank a wine when she was somewhere else. my brother in law could not handle it anymore and started to steal alcohol. lost his job because of that. when you want to go wrong, you go wrong.

keep strong.. your on the right track...you can make it

ps. my brother in law is doing fine now, new job and has his self under control. but it is not easy.. going to visit them the next few days. have to get up to early tomorrow to catch the train to amsterdam.

I Went In And Talked To The Region Manager Today.

I Go Back To Work Tomorrow

My Old Boss Left His Position Last Friday (I Have No Boss)

What I Thought Was Funny Was, The Region Manager Told Me Something To The Effect I Know You Told Me How **** Was But I Found Out For My Self After He Left Everything You Said Was True.

I Had A Problem With All The Lies And 1\2 Truths That My Boss Created, And That Caused Me To Hate My Boss, And To Drink More Than Normal.

I Do However Realize I Can Not Blame Him For All My Drinking.

I Have learned I Am Powerless over the effects of Alcohol.

I May Never Believe In God, But I Am Going To AA, And I Have Found Many Sites With Free Speaker Audio Files That I Can Listen To.

I Had Never Asked My Wife To Stop Drinking In Front Of Me But 3 Days Ago She Stopped Drinking Her Wine. Not Having Any Alcohol in The House Will Help Me And I Appreciate Her For What She Has Done For Me.

Inside The Mind Of Mark F.

One Of The Things You Find Out In Recovery Classes Is How To Avoid Relapse, And What Tricks Your Brain Will Play On You To Justify One More Drink.

The First Thing I Thought About When I Got My Results Back Is "I Can Drink Again"

It Is A Struggle One Day At A Time To Fight The Cravings To Drink.

I Told Sue That I Had A Dream, And I Seen My Self In The Woods, Living In A Tent, Collecting My Military Retirement To Pay For My Alcohol. More So If She Dies Before Me, At That Point I Will Have Nothing To Live For. If It Was Not For Sue I Think I Would Have Been Dead Along Time Ago.

I Talked about this in my last A.A. Meeting, And They Encouraged Me to Stay Sober, And Told Me It Gets Easier. More So If You Fill Up Your Day With Things That Are Productive.

In A.A. You Help Your Self By Helping Others So I Am Getting More Involved Into The Meetings And How To Conduct One In The Future. That Is Kind Of New To Me Since I Am A Recluse, And Anti-Social. I Have All The Basic Materials, Books, Speaker Cd's, And Other Items To Help A Drunk To Think About Another Way Of Life.

I hear you: when I quit smoking (the first or second time, not the last time), my brain would do the same: "it's only one cigarette" which quickly became "it's only one pack, I won't get anymore" and then I was smoking again.

Think about the feeling good part - when I quit (the last time), it was REALLY nice just breathing. For about 6 months I went around smiling just from the feeling of breathing. I'd never go back to smoking now, not even if I found out I had a week to live. It's just not worth it to feel bad.

I Have been doing somethings interesting (To Me)

Since I Have Joined A.A. I Have Actually Been Reading (Not Like I Did The Books JimH Sent To Me).

I have always liked Antiques, So I Started Out On A New Hobby, Collecting Old Versions Of A.A. Books And Oxford Group Books. For Some Reason It Makes Me Feel Good Knowing That The Old Book I Collected May Have Been owned By Someone Who Was Able To Stop Drinking (I Hope).

I Do Not Have That Same Feeling With A New Book.

Is That Weird?

Some Of The Books I Have Collected (Oxford Group Books) Are Printed Prior To 1935 (The Year A.A. Was Formed As A Group).

I Have Been Sober: 138 days

I Have my good days, and bad days but mostly good days.

I Have Been Using MC13 Almost Every Day Cataloging A.A. Speaker Mp3's (I Have Almost 3,000 Of Them Now), And Then Burning Them To CD To Give To Other Alcoholics (Free) To Do My Part With Step 12 Even Though I Am New In A.A. And Still Learning.

I was wondering how you were doing just a few days ago.  You're almost 6 months into it.  Congratulations.

Did you read either of the John MacDonald books?  I always liked them.  My mother-in-law, too, though you'd never expect it if you knew her.
