ipod classic 120g
« on: September 17, 2008, 04:45:44 pm »

Hello,
Just purchased a new ipod classic 120g. I am using media center 11.1 which worked great with my old ipod classic 30g. Media center finds new ipod and lets me drag and drop files. I transfer and all looks well, but when I check my ipod it shows their is no music, artists,or albums. When I go to setting the ipod shows GB's being used. Also when I connect ipod to pc it shows all music files there and says on device.
Am I missing somthing?

Thanks

Joe

I don't believe the new Classics (or any new iPod) are supported by MC at this point.

First they never made an ipod classic 30g.  That was probably a 4th Gen iPod.  Classic refers to the 6th Gen iPod.
The 80GB and 160GB iPod Classics work fine under MC12, however do not work under MC11.  I am not sure if Apple broke the support with the newer 120GB iPod Classic, however it would at least require MC12.

I know my 160 GB Classic works fine, I thought that the new 120 GB model wasn't working with MC.

I own a 30G iPod Classic - 5th gen!  You might want to read up on iPods here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPod_classic#Fifth_generation

Actually the 30gb is just a 5th Gen 30gb Ipod, I have the 80gb ver.  The classics only come in 80,160 & now 120 gb version.

So are people saying that the new 120GB iPod classic works with MC12 but not with MC13?  I've read reports that this iPod doesn't work with MC13 (i.e. that only the 80 and 160 work with MC13), but I'm unclear at the moment if this is the rule or the exception.

If this is in fact the case, why would MC13, which is newer, have issues that MC12 does not?

Thanks for any direct feedback on this from 120GB iPod Classic users who've tried MC13.

Can anyone who has actually tried it confirm that the 120G iPod classic works with MC13?

Thanks,

Yes, I can confirm that it works with MC13.0.82
(120GB Ipod classic Firmware 2.0.1)

It's all working as before with my old 60GB Ipod Classic:
Coverart: OK (Coverflow works fine)
Playstats (Rating and last played) get transferred: OK
Synching my playlists: OK
Audio-Podcasts: OK
Video-Podcasts: OK
Lyrics-Display for MP3: OK

Not working: Genius (as expected)
(That's OK for me, because I create my own Radio-Smartlists)

Edited:

Btw:
Also the Ipod-playstats-transfer to Last.FM works fine (but only with the external tool 'Lastpod'; it does'nt reset the Ipod-playstats, using MC13 after that works, MC13 sees the correct playstats).
I would like to be able to do this with MC... :-[
