Trying to convert from WMA to MP3
« on: July 26, 2002, 12:28:27 am »

I tried to use the converter (Tools/Convert Format) to convert a file from WMA to MP3 but nothing happened and I got an error message that said:  "Failed to Convert".

Any suggestions?

Yes, don't convert WMA to MP3 you will regret, the MP3 converted will sound worse than WMA. Leave as it is

For clarification......

The reason for converting the format is:

1.  I download from Pressplay and the download format is WMA (only).
2.  I want to play the songs on my MP3 player (iRock 520) which only accepts mp3 formats.

I understand I may get some loss in quality.  Do I have any other alternatives?

I would recommend converting the WMA-files to WAVE. Maybe apply some useful clearing filters with Cool Edit and then re-encode into MP3 with Lame using "--r3mix". You don't want to loose more information than absolutly necessary.

But generally I wouldn't do this at all...
